Purpose 

 

To provide Active Army and Reserve Component Signal Corps Lieutenants the specialized signal skills, doctrine, tactics and techniques designed to complement Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills and enable them to lead Soldiers in the contemporary operational environment. Prepares Signal Platoon Leaders assigned to DoD Tactical Communications, Brigade Combat Teams (BCT) or assigned as a Signal Staff Officer (S-6). This course is the foundation for officer professional development.

 

Course Scope 

 

Signal Basic Officer Leader Division consists of TRADOC Common Core, Information Technology (IT), Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP), Tactical Network (TN), Combat Net Radio (CNR), Mission Command Information System (MCIS), PREPEX, Capstone, and Administrative Time. Detailed instruction includes Army Operations doctrine; Military Decision Making Process (MDMP); information systems, communications planning, execution and management; information systems/communications interface; communications requirements unique to a Maneuver Battalion or Brigade; offense; defense; leadership; electronics; tropospheric scattering; property accounting; telecommunications; COMSEC; training management; military justice; Signal tactics and doctrine; S-6 functions; Joint Capabilities Release (JCR), and modularity topics (equipment overview, equipment orientation). General Learning Outcomes (GLO) General Learning Outcomes (GLO) are incorporated in the learners' lesson and are measured by a rubric on the learners' ability to achieve proficiency of the task.

Pre-requisites 

Active and Reserve Component U.S. Army lieutenants who have been assessed into the Signal Corps. Must be able to successfully complete the ACFT. Must be IAW AR 600-9 height/weight requirements. International military students attend under the provisions of the DOD Foreign Military Sales Program. Read and understand the welcome letter sent to students.

Special Information 

Physical Demands:

 

Occasionally lifts/lowers and carries 150 pounds (communications transit cases) as part of a two (2) Soldier team (prorated 75 pounds per Soldier) a vertical distance of 5 feet and a horizontal distance of 100 feet while wearing/carrying ~80 pounds of uniform and combat equipment.

Occasionally lifts/lowers and carries 15 pounds of commercial off the shelf equipment (laptop computer with case) a vertical distance of 5 feet and a horizontal distance of 100 feet while wearing/carrying ~80 pounds of uniform and combat equipment.

International Military Students are excused from portions of this course as identified by foreign disclosure restrictions within each lesson plan.

 

CAPSTONE:

 

A capstone training event is conducted at the end of the course to assess student learning and to evaluate their ability to perform required MOS specific critical tasks in a simulated field environment.

Course Structure 

 

This course is structured to be completed in sequence.

The course is structured in modules, and lessons.

The course is comprised of 10 modules. Each module consists of multiple lessons. The description of each module is shown below and in the course map.

The course is Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) intensive and reflects the most current information technology, communications equipment, software, hardware, automated data processing (ADP), and methods of data networking, security and information assurance management procedures currently employed within operational units.
