Israel has had a problem for several millenia. They don't obey God. Some pretend to, but just read the bible, it pretty much spells it out. They also didn't get the New Testament memo, well some did, but others did not. What was the main problem when Jesus was doing His thing? The Sanhedrin. MEN trying to replace God. Yes, God DID choose them, but it was based upon Abraham's listening to, and adherence to, God. Nobody is perfect, THAT is why we ALL need Christ. In fact, they are still waiting for the Messiah except He already showed up, at least in His forgiving guise. When He shows up again, He isn't gonna come back as a forgiving father, He is coming back as a just judge who will wreck his adversaries. As the bible says, "12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him."
Things are exactly how they were thousands of years ago, some Jews listened and some didn't. What happened when Moses got pissed after leaving Egypt and they built a golden calf? Those who sided with Moses were on one side, and those who wanted to go back to Egypt on another. The ones who choose Egypt, got hosed. Same thing today. Nothing new under the sun.
