A passenger train has derailed after colliding with a truck in Russia’s southern Volgograd region, according to statements from authorities and videos from the scene.

The 20-carriage locomotive was en route from the city of Kazan in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan to Sochi's Adler station when the incident occurred. Nine carriages derailed, Volgograd Region Governor Andrey Bocharov said in a statement. Some 813 passengers were on the train, he added.

According to official figures, a total of 30 people, including 12 children, have been taken to hospital. Over a hundred others are said to have suffered abrasions and bruises. There have been no reports of any deaths.

The truck driver survived but is reported to have sustained severe injuries to his head and legs.

The driver of the KAMAZ truck “grossly violated” traffic rules and drove onto a railway crossing in front of the approaching train despite a warning signal, Russian Railways claimed.

Ex-BBC Presenter Huw Edwards Charged with Making Indecent Images of Children

A former BBC presenter has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children, London’s Metropolitan Police Service said.

Huw Edwards, 62, was one of the BBC’s most prominent figures before he was suspended in July 2023 and later resigned for health reasons.

Edwards had been the lead anchor on the BBC’s nighttime news and led BBC coverage of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. He had been among the broadcaster’s best-paid stars, with an annual salary of at least 435,000 pounds ($565,000).

The charges relate to offenses that allegedly took place between December 2020 and April 2022 and involved images shared on WhatsApp, police said.

Edwards was charged on June 26 following authorization from the Crown Prosecution Service and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

X begins training Grok AI with your posts, here's how to disable

X has quietly begun training its Grok AI chat platform using members' public posts without first alerting anyone that it is doing it by default.

As AI platforms war for dominance, they are constantly seeking data to train their large language models (LLMs).

This makes your data very valuable. However, instead of asking for permission, most platforms use your data without notifying you or the sites they take it from.

To avoid being left out of the game, X quietly began to train its Grok AI chat platform by using users' posts without asking for permission or making an announcement about the change.

It wasn't until Thursday, July 25, that users noticed a new setting under the site's privacy settings that allowed the platform to use your data. What's worse is that this setting is enabled by default rather than it being opt-in.

X's Safety team confirmed the new setting in a Tweet, stating that it is currently available only on the web version of the site and is soon rolling out to mobile.

"All X users have the ability to control whether their public posts can be used to train Grok, the AI search assistant," tweeted X's Safety account.

"This option is in addition to your existing controls over whether your interactions, inputs, and results related to Grok can be utilized. This setting is available on the web platform and will soon be rolled out on mobile."

"This privacy option is available under the same Privacy settings accessible to every X user, making it easily accessible with just a few clicks."

The site's About Grok page has also been updated to say that X may use your posts to train Grok, which was not found in previous versions of the page.

"To continuously improve your experience, we may utilize your X posts as well as your user interactions, inputs, and results with Grok for training and fine-tuning purposes," says the About Grok page now.

As this setting is enabled by default, it is possible that X has been training its AI platform with members' data for quite some time. However, this new option gives users a way to opt out.

7,640,112 Customers Hit By Massive Bank Breach – Exposing Names, Social Security Numbers, Locations and Bank Account Numbers

A US bank says more than seven million people are affected by a major hack and data breach that’s impacting multiple financial firms and their customers.

A new data breach notice at the Office of the Maine Attorney General shows a total of 7,640,112 customers at Evolve Bank & Trust have had their sensitive data exposed.

The data, which is reportedly on the dark web, includes customers’ names, Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.

The hack, which was carried out by an infamous Russian-linked group known as LockBit, has also impacted several financial firms that have worked with the bank.

Affirm, which has 18 million customers of its own, believes that the personal information of its Affirm Card users was compromised in the hack.

In addition, Wise, Bilt, Marqeta, Mercury and EarnIn have all either confirmed that some of their customers’ data was also stolen in the breach or announced further investigation is underway.

UNRWA chief says war on Gaza kills nearly 200 UNRWA workers

Israel's war on Gaza has killed nearly 200 members of the aid charity United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) since October, the head of the agency revealed on Saturday.

Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner-general of UNRWA, said the toll is "by far the largest loss of personnel killed in a single conflict or natural disaster since the creation of the United Nations" in a statement on X, adding the death toll reached a "grim milestone".

Lazzarini highlighted the death of a UNRWA teacher, Ibtihal, who was killed last week with her four-month-old baby and also stated that many of these members were killed with their families or in the line of duty.

The video—which is captioned in Hebrew, "Destruction of the Tal Sultan water reservoir in honor of Shabbat"—ends with footage of the water facility being blown up. The soundtrack is a song produced by soldiers of the 51st Golani Brigade with lyrics like, "We will burn Gaza… shake all of Gaza… for every house you destroy we will destroy ten."

The water facility, also known as the Canada Well, is situated in Tel Sultan Neighborhood, in the western part of Rafah city. U.S. human rights activist Rachel Corrie, who was crushed to death in 2003 by an Israeli military bulldozer while attempting to prevent demolitions in the city, spent much of her time during the last month of her life helping to protect the municipality workers at the Canada Well. The workers were repairing damage done to the well due to the Israeli military bulldozers in the area, according to Gordon Murray, one of her fellow activists.

A report Corrie wrote just weeks before her murder lays out the work she and other activists with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM)—"human shield work with the Rafah Municipal Water authority," she described it—were doing with local Palestinian workers to protect the well and local water system. "The workers are currently building a barrier surrounding the Canada Well…in the Canada-Tel El Sultan area of Rafah," she wrote. "This well along with the El Iskan Well…was destroyed by Israeli bulldozers on 30th January [2003]. On several occasions the internationals have witnessed shooting from military vehicles on the settler road which passes along the northwestern edge of the sand-dunes and agricultural areas on the outskirts of Rafah."

Corrie's report added that the Canada Well had the capacity to produce 35 percent of Rafah's total water supply back then. The defense of the water supply, she noted, led "to ISM activists coming under fire."

And yet, there was just one visible protester in the congressional chamber. Rashida Tlaib, the only US legislator of Palestinian heritage, sat silently grasping a small black sign. On one side it said: “War criminal”. On the other: “Guilty of genocide”.

"FEMA camps are going up all over the place. There were a couple hundred now there's over a thousand that we're aware of that are literally in the U.S., coast to coast," she said, adding that the largest FEMA camp can be found in Juneau, Alaska.
