>GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - James Cannon, chief investigator in the case of Tina Peters testified Thursday morning.
>He began the investigation in Aug. 2021 after a video of a computer displaying Mesa County passwords was posted online by “Code Monkey Z”. A hard drive containing that confidential information was also mailed to a man named Conan James Hayes. Hayes has connections to other cases of security breaches regarding the 2020 election.
>Cannon obtained a search warrant and accessed Peters’ desk, where he found a sheet of paper with incriminating phrases written on it.
>“Right here…it says crazy monkey z, which at the time, I thought it was an oversight of the alias of the person that posted the video,” said Cannon to the jury, “There was a mention that says, ‘capture my passwords’… This was an investigation about passwords that had been leaked.”
>There was also a log on Peters’ desk of people who entered the room on the day the video was taken. According to prosecutors, the name of a man from Fruita was on the list, but there is no record of him entering the room that day.
>Peters’ lawyers argued against the relevance of the video because Peters isn’t being charged with taking and releasing that video.
>Peters faces ten charges after allegedly tampering with a voting machine and causing a security breach during the 2020 election.
