On August 1, 2024, Misty Roberts, who resigned as mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana on July 27, 2024, was arrested and charged with third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. The allegations stem from an investigation by the Louisiana State Police’s Special Victims Unit, which was requested by the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office on July 26, 2024.

According to the police statement, investigators interviewed two juveniles, one of whom alleged that Roberts had sexual intercourse with them while she was employed as mayor. Both juveniles confirmed the allegations, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Roberts.

Roberts, who had served as mayor since 2018, resigned from office on July 27, citing a need to “adjust her focus and priorities.” She had previously announced a two-week leave of absence on July 25, during which time she appointed the fire chief as acting mayor.

The arrest comes as a shock to the community, and authorities urge anyone affected by similar incidents to seek help through the National Sexual Assault Hotline (1-800-656-HOPE) or online at rainn.org.
