The Michigan Republican Party held a news conference Wednesday afternoon linking Benson’s campaign to the group calling itself The Tea Party, which was unsuccessful in seeking political party status on the November ballot and which has been labeled a fake by Republicans and tea party organizations. The Republicans claimed that former Oakland County Democratic Party Chairman Mike McGuinness was Benson’s former operations director and that McGuinness and former Oakland Democratic Party employee Jason Bauer both contributed to her campaign. They also say Bauer notarized 12 of 23 of the candidate filings for The Tea Party group.

Two former officials with the Oakland County Democratic Party have been indicted for alleged political dirty tricks during last November's election.
WWJ and Fox-2 legal analyst Charlie Langton was in the courtroom, Wednesday morning, when Michael McGuinness and Jason Bauer stand accused of forging documents to place to bogus candidates on the ballot.
Langton shared more details about the indictment.
"We do know that they're felonies. We do know they involve election fraud, and we do know that they involve these Democrats trying to put phony Tea Party candidates on the ballot in an attempt to kind of dilute the Republican vote in last November's election," Langton said.

Resident Jason Bauer said Friday morning he went to buy a drink at the Menards home improvement store next his business in Auburn Hills, where the security guard told him he couldn't enter without a mask.
"He said we’re selling them for a buck, so I just bought one," Bauer said, noting he wasn't asked for a mask when he shopped at the Menards on Wednesday.
"I understand. People shouldn’t be going out as much as they do anyway. It’s not going to kill anyone if they stay home a few more weeks," he added.
