I believe societies need police. The problem is that police become "foot-soldiers" of the government. Mimicking the military to a point they are sometimes indistinguishable. County sheriffs are the closest law enforcement body to the Constitution. Also because Sheriffs are an Elected position, unlike city or State police. You can see through the history of events how different they support individual's rights compared to say the NYPD. Their job is to follow orders, so who will "police" the police who follow unlawful orders?
