Nigeria joins Malaysia in advising citizens not to travel to UK warning of 'violence of dangerous proportions'

Nigeria has joined Malaysia in warning nationals not to travel to the UK following a weekend of unrest and violent protests.

President Bola Tinubu’s government warned that attacks of "dangerous proportions" had broken out across the UK in a post to social media.

Taking to X, Nigeria's federal ministry of foreign affairs said: “There is an increased risk of violence and disorder occasioned by the recent riots in the UK, stemming from the killing of 3 young girls at a concert.

"The violence has assumed dangerous proportions as evidenced by reported attacks on Law enforcement agents and damage to infrastructure.

It follows the Malaysian government's announcement that tourists from the region should register their presence in the UK, after clashes erupted in Middlesborough and Rotherham following last week's Southport attack on a Taylor Swift dance class.

Sheikh Hasina: Bangladeshi PM resigns and flees country

The country has been in the grip of massive street protests against a government jobs quota said to favour the ruling party

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and left the country following mass protests.

Thousands of people stormed Ms Hasina’s official residence in the capital, according to scenes televised by Bangladesh’s Channel 24. They waved to the camera in celebration.

Footage showed a helicopter purportedly carrying Ms Hasina leaving the capital.

The country has been gripped by protests in recent days, leading to some of the worst violence since the birth of the South Asian nation more than five decades ago.

At least 98 people were killed on Sunday, including 14 police officers, in the deadliest day of the unrest.

Hundreds have died as they demonstrated against a quota that reserves 30 per cent of government jobs for relatives of war veterans, a move protesters say favours the ruling party.

Protesters and government supporters across the country battled each other with sticks and knives, with security forces opening fire.
