The IPA is used by speech pathologists and linguists to transcribe exactly how words are pronounced. They can transcribe a word spoken by 2 different speakers, one from Texas vs one from Brooklyn, to account for a southern versus Brooklyn accent, for example. I don't think that applies to Q and his needs.
