Remember Smartmatic? Its President Was Just Indicted by the DOJ

https://redstate.com/smoosieq/2024/08/09/remember-smartmatic-its-president-was-just-indicted-by-the-doj-n2177920

On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that four men were being charged in a Philippine bribery money laundering scheme in the Southern District of Florida. What makes this announcement of added interest? One of the men charged is Roger Alejandro PiƱate Martinez ā€” who also happens to be the founder and president of voting machine company Smartmatic.

From the DOJ's press release regarding the indictment:

A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Florida returned an indictment today charging three executives of an election voting machine and service provider company and a former Chairman of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) of the Republic of the Philippines for their roles in an alleged bribery and money laundering scheme to retain and obtain business related to the 2016 Philippine elections.

According to the indictment, between 2015 and 2018, Roger Alejandro Pinate Martinez, 49, a Venezuelan citizen and resident of Boca Raton, Florida, and Jorge Miguel Vasquez, 62, a U.S. citizen and resident of Davie, Florida, together with others, allegedly caused at least $1 million in bribes to be paid to Juan Andres Donato Bautista, 60, the former Chairman of COMELEC. These bribes were allegedly paid to obtain and retain business related to providing voting machines and election services for the 2016 Philippine elections and to secure payments on the contracts, including the release of value added tax payments.

The co-conspirators allegedly funded the bribes through a slush fund that was created by over-invoicing the cost per voting machine for the 2016 Philippine elections. To conceal and disguise the nature and purpose of the corrupt payments, the co-conspirators used coded language to refer to the slush fund and caused the creation of fraudulent contracts and sham loan agreements to justify transfers. The co-conspirators then allegedly laundered funds related to the bribery scheme through bank accounts located in Asia, Europe, and the United States, including in the Southern District of Florida.

Pinate and Vasquez are each charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and one substantive violation of the FCPA. Bautista, Pinate, Vasquez, and Elie Moreno, 44, a dual citizen of Venezuela and Israel, are each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering and three counts of international laundering of monetary instruments. If convicted, Pinate and Vasquez each face a maximum penalty of five years in prison for the FCPA and conspiracy to violate the FCPA counts. Bautista, Pinate, Vasquez, and Moreno each face a maximum penalty of 20 years for each count of international laundering of monetary instruments and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Kamala Harris Seized Damning Undercover Planned Parenthood Videos 8 Years Ago, And Theyā€™re Finally Unsealed

https://thefederalist.com/2024/08/09/kamala-harris-seized-damning-undercover-planned-parenthood-videos-8-years-ago-and-theyre-finally-unsealed/

Kamala Harris aided Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation in hiding their alleged baby body part trafficking.

hile serving as California attorney general in 2016, Kamala Harris sent 11 California Department of Justice agents to raid the home of journalist and pro-life activist David Daleiden. Harrisā€™ office seized Daleidenā€™s camera equipment and hard drives containing undercover videos allegedly exposing Planned Parenthoodā€™s trafficking of aborted baby body parts. For eight years, much of Daleidenā€™s footage has been sealed and unseen until now.

In March of this year, Congress held a hearing on, ā€œInvestigating the Black Market of Baby Organ Harvesting,ā€ which included footage subpoenaed from Daleidenā€™s Center for Medical Progress (CMP). In May, the San Francisco District Court ruled that CMP cannot be prevented from releasing the subpoenaed footage, and on July 30, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R- Ga., released full, unedited versions of the footage as an addendum to the congressional hearing.

The release of these new videos allows Daleiden to continue his journalistic work that began in 2015, uncovering Planned Parenthoodā€™s alleged participation in fetal organ trafficking. His latest videos include alleged admissions from Planned Parenthood employees about their ā€œfinancial incentivesā€ and their own graphic descriptions about the process for procuring late-term fetuses to sell.

In one conversation, the Center for Medical Progress reporter posing as a laboratory wholesaler spoke with individuals identified as Dr. Ann Schutt-Aine, the Chief Medical Officer of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, and Tram Nguyen, RN, the branchā€™s Vice President of Abortion Access. As the three discuss competition for fetal organs and cells based on what is ā€œmore profitableā€ for suppliers, Schutt-Aine responds, telling Nguyen: ā€œ[Y]ou told me about the proposition, and so now every time a do a D&E [dilation and evacuation abortion], Iā€™m like, ā€˜Oh thereā€™s some lungs, thereā€™s some kidneys.ā€™ā€

Nguyen describes delivering suppliers aborted fetuses with missing limbs: ā€œWe just had to hurry up, whereas other days itā€™s more intact, where itā€™s like maybe only like an arm thatā€™s disarticulated.ā€

ā€œIā€™m like, ā€˜Yeah, I have like a leg for you!ā€™ Iā€™m like, oh sh, if other people were to hear me, theyā€™d be like, you are f*ing evil,ā€ she added later.

ā€œAttorney General Harris raided my home and seized this footage to try to block it from release for eight years, on orders from Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation. Now everyone can see why they did it ā€” the remaining undercover videos are too incriminating to explain away,ā€ Daleiden said of his latest work.

37,000-year-old mammoth butchering site may be oldest evidence of humans in North America

https://www.livescience.com/mammoth-butchering-site-new-mexico

A 37,000-year-old mammoth butchering site, uncovered in New Mexico, might be the earliest evidence of humans in North America, controversial research finds. Some of the bones at the site show signs of being handled by humans or even being used as tools, which is "some of the most conclusive evidence" yet that humans settled in North America much earlier than experts previously thought, according to the new study.

If the team is correct about human activity at the site, it would almost double the amount of time humans have occupied North America. However, determining the exact date that people first appeared in North America has been a controversial subject over the past few decades, and similar studies have been dismissed as inconclusive. Some experts are similarly skeptical of the conclusions the team has drawn from the mammoths' remains.

The new site was discovered on the Colorado Plateau in northern New Mexico, after hiker Gary Hartley spotted a chunk of tusk protruding from the surface. Researchers named the site the "Hartley mammoth locality" in his honor.

An excavation of the Hartley site revealed the incomplete remains of two mammoths, believed to be an adult female and a juvenile. Most of the bones were grouped in a large pile, with the adult female's skull lying on top. By carbon-dating collagen in the bones, researchers estimated the remains could date to between 36,250 and 38,900 years ago.

Some of the bones appeared to have been crafted into makeshift knives, possibly used to butcher the mammoths, the researchers said. Other bones showed signs of being broken by blunt-force trauma, possibly from using rocks, which were also found in the pile of bones. There were also puncture marks in some of the mammoths' ribs, possibly resulting from humans' attempts to glean at the valuable nutrients inside.

Tiny particles found in the sediment surrounding the bones also included crystallized ash from what researchers suspect was a fire, possibly used to cook the mammoth meat as well as other small animals.

"What we've got is amazing," lead study author Timothy Rowe, a paleontologist at The University of Texas at Austin, said in a statement.

When did the first Americans arrive?

Until the early 2000s, archaeological evidence had suggested that the Clovis people ā€” a group of early humans who can be identified through distinctively shaped weapons ā€” were the first humans in North America, arriving around 13,000 years ago. But more recent finds have revealed that there was likely a genetically separate group of humans, known as pre-Clovis people, living in North America before the Clovis people arrived.

It is now firmly established that the pre-Clovis people were the first humans to live in North America, and they can be reliably traced back to around 16,000 years ago, Justin Tackney, an anthropologist at the University of Kansas who specializes in the human settlement of the Americas and was not involved in the study, told Live Science in an emailā€¦ā€¦.
