'All passengers and crew have died,' Brazil's President says
Speaking at an event in southern Brazil, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva asked the crowd to stand and observe a minute of silence as he shared the news.
He said that it appeared that all passengers and crew aboard had died, without elaborating as to how that information had been obtained.
The authorities are yet to verify this claim.

Aircraft came down in a flat spin, indicating a major stall event. Unconfirmed reports are that the pilot requested a lower altitude due to icing, but this was refused by ATC. The ATR 72 series has had issues with icing for some time, and not only in countries with "cold" climates, and with the wings being out of sight of the pilots and from the cabin enough ice can build up quickly without being noticed to create the conditions leading to a sudden, and non-recoverable, stall giving you the flat spin this one had. Sympathies to all involved, but questions need to be asked to both ATR and Brazilian ATC over this, as that model was subject to a mandatory redesign some years back as it was deemed that the anti-icing systems were simply not good enough

Where did you get that information that the pilot requested a lower altitude due to icing?

10 people missed that flight. Just seen the reporters interview two of them. Thank their lucky stars, they won the lottery.
