Sometimes one interesting story leads to another.
Last year I did a POLITICO exposé about how President Barack Obama’s administration let Hezbollah off the hook. Because of the administration’s zeal for the Iran nuclear deal, criminal investigations into global drug trafficking by Hezbollah’s terrorist wing were derailed.

After we published that story, a message popped up in my encrypted email inbox. A former DEA official told me the same thing happened to them but worse… and in Afghanistan. I spent weeks reporting it out, and found that the story was even bigger – and more complicated – than he suggested.
