Netanyahu Promises Talmud Will Be Israeli Law

Netanyahu tells Likud hareidi leader Hebrew calendar will be official calendar of state in new Basic Law, Jewish law basis of legal system.

The new law also would establish the Talmud, the core work of Jewish law, as an official basis for Israeli state law.

"I'm going to personally be involved in the law defining the state of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people," Netanyahu reportedly told Vider. "It's a very important law that will influence how Israel will look in the future."

"I want to anchor in this law, that it will be a Basic Law that the state of Israel arose and exists on the basis of the Torah and the Jewish tradition," Netanyahu explained, promising to define the Hebrew calendar as the official state calendar.

Netanyahu also promised that "we will define in the law the Gemara as a basis for the Israeli legal system," referencing the Jewish legal text analyzing the Mishnah, a legal work of the Jewish sages, which together form the Talmud.

Discussing the new Basic Law on Sunday in a cabinet meeting, Netanyahu stated "the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish state does not actualize itself enough in our Basic Laws, which is what the proposed law aims to fix."

Netanyahu stressed the law would not restrict the rights of non-Jewish citizens of Israel. He further dismissed opposition to the law by leftist MKs, foremost among them Justice Minister Tzipi Livni who pledged to block the law.

"They want a Palestinian national state to be built beside us, and to turn the State of Israel, meanwhile, into a bi-national state, Jewish-Arab, within our restricted borders," Netanyahu argued, saying the new Basic Law would prevent such a situation.

Reuters and Times of Israel have cited three Iranian officials who said "An Iranian attack on Israel could be delayed amid hoped-for negotiations later this week for a hostage release and ceasefire deal in Gaza" which indicates that "a successful deal could hold Iran back from direct retaliation against Israel for alleged assassinating Hamas terror chief Ismail Haniyeh on its soil."

Israeli authorities have long had a ban on non-Muslims conducting religious events or displaying religious symbols inside the compound, even though they are permitted to visit the mosque, which is Islam's third holiest site behind Mecca and Medina.

Smartmatic President Surrenders To US Authorities In Miami To Face Election-Related Bribery, Corruption Charges

Smartmatic co-founder and president Roger Piñate surrendered to federal authorities in Miami, Florida on Monday, where he faces charges related to foreign corruption, bribery, and money laundering to secure elections contracts in the Philippines.

Piñate, 49, was charged along with Jorge Miguel Vasquez, 62, the company's former VP of hardware development - who also surrendered on Monday.

Piñate posted an $8.5 million dollar bond and was later released, however he did not enter a plea because his defense attorney, Curt Miner, has yet to become his permanent lawyer. Vasquez was released on a $1 million bond. His defense attorney, Frank Rubino, told the Miami Herald "It's so early in the case, "But we have been aware of this investigation since 2019."

According to the indictment, the alleged co-conspirators financed the bribes by over-invoicing the cost per voting machine used in the elections. To hide their crime, prosecutors say they used coded language to refer to a slush fund used to make the illicit payments - causing the creation of fraudulent contracts and fake loan agreements to make the transfers appear legitimate.

The defendants then allegedly laundered the funds related to the bribery scheme via a constellation of international bank accounts in Asia, Europe and the United States - including in the Southern District of Florida.

Court records, including a Homeland Security Investigations criminal complaint, indicate that Smartmatic’s contracts with the Philippines were worth $199 million for providing voting machines and other services for the May 2016 election for president, vice president and other official positions.

Piñate, Vasquez, Bautista and Elie Moreno, 44, a dual citizen of Venezuela and Israel who oversaw Smartmatic’s contracts in the Philippines, are each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering and three counts of international laundering of monetary instruments.

The defendants each face a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted on the above charges, as well as up to five more years each for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and conspiracy to violate the FCPA.

EU Backtracks Censorship Demands of Musk-Trump Interview Amid Election Interference Accusations

Facing accusations of election interference, the European Union on Tuesday tried to walk back censorship threats made by Brussels’ speech code arbiter, Thierry Breton, over Elon Musk’s interview with former President Donald Trump.

Breton appears to have been thrown under the bus as panic broke out after he allegedly acted unilaterally to publish a letter to X owner Elon Musk ahead of his uncensored, live conversation with Donald Trump on Monday evening.

In his letter, the French business executive-turned politician threatened to use all powers in his “toolbox” under the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) if the interview broke the EU’s speech restrictions on hate speech, disinformation, or anything deemed harmful to “civic discourse and public security” in Europe.

However, according to a report from POLITICO on Tuesday, a European Commission spokesman said that the threats made in the letter were made without the knowledge of EU chief Ursula von der Leyen.

The website then cited “four separate EU officials” speaking on condition of anonymity to condemn the censorship czar’s threats to Musk amid accusations that they had represented “election interference” in the United States.

“The EU is not in the business of electoral interference,” one EU official told POLITICO. “DSA implementation is too important to be misused by an attention-seeking politician in search of his next big job.”

Oregon National Guard Sends Off 230 Soldiers to Iraq and Syria

The deployment comes as US bases in both countries are coming under attack

The Oregon National Guard is sending off 230 guardsmen to Iraq and Syria amid soaring tensions in the Middle East as the US is pledging to defend Israel from an expected Iranian reprisal attack.

The US has about 2,500 troops in Iraq and 900 troops occupying eastern Syria. The Oregon guardsmen are likely being sent out on a regular rotational deployment, but the move comes as the US beefs up its presence in the region.

According to KGW8, a local NBC affiliate in Oregon, the unit is being deployed for a year and will serve as “primary artillery defenders” for the US and its partners in Iraq and Syria. The soldiers held a mobilization ceremony on Friday and were sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to undergo training before the deployment.

The US frequently deploys the National Guard to active conflicts in Iraq, Syria, and Somalia. A national movement in the US is seeking to remove the federal government’s ability to deploy the National Guard to war zones through legislation at the state level, known as the Defend the Guard Act.

The Defend the Guard Act would prohibit the federal government from deploying a state’s National Guard to a conflict zone where Congress hasn’t officially declared war, which hasn’t happened since World War II. The bill has passed through several state legislatures but has yet to become law.

The Oregon National Guard soldiers will be deployed under the US-led anti-ISIS coalition, known as Operation Inherent Resolve. ISIS doesn’t hold significant territory in Iraq and Syria, but there’s been a resurgence of ISIS attacks amid tensions and other escalations in the region.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for 153 attacks in Iraq and Syria this year. In July, US Central Command said that it had participated in 196 missions against ISIS with partner forces in Iraq and Syria, which killed 44 suspected ISIS operatives.

But the US has also been engaged in battle with Iraqi Shia militias that fall under the Popular Mobilization Forces, who are sworn enemies of ISIS and are part of Iraq’s security forces. From October 2023 to February of this year, the militias launched hundreds of attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria in response to US support for Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza.

The attacks culminated in the killing of three US Army Reserve troops at Tower 22, a secretive US base in Jordan. Forty-one members of the Arizona National Guard were also wounded. Iran and the Iraqi government pressured the militias to stop the attacks, and there was a lull until recently. In the past week, several US troops have been injured in rocket and drone attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria.

If Pennsylvania’s Elections Are So Secure, Why Did The DOJ Just Launch An Election Fraud Case There?

If one person can fabricate bogus voter registrations, the system is vulnerable.

AMontgomery County Pennsylvania man has been charged with election fraud — one man, multiple votes — but local media wants you to know election fraud is really rare.

Philip C. Pulley of Huntington Valley, was charged with falsely registering to vote, double voting, and election fraud. United States Attorney Jacqueline Romero announced the charges on Friday.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) accuses Pulley of registering to vote in three counties: Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania, and Broward County in Florida, using a false home address, and a false Social Security number.

Pulley, 62, is accused of requesting a mail-in ballot to vote in Philadelphia County in the 2020 general election, while also voting from Montgomery and Broward counties. He is also accused of voting in both Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in 2022.

Neither the document outlining the charges nor a spokeswoman from the DOJ’s U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Philadelphia provided Pulley’s date of birth, which would make it simple to look up his party affiliation. When specifically asked for clarification as to his party affiliation, the spokeswoman told The Federalist in an email that she was not able to provide any further information.

“If convicted, on each count of the information [Pulley] faces a maximum possible sentence of five years of imprisonment, three years of supervised release, a $10,000 to $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment,” according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Eastern District of Pennsylvania

But legacy media assures readers this kind of thing almost never happens.

“The case represents a rare example of documented voter fraud,” the Philadelphia Inquirer reported in the second sentence of its story, just under the comforting headline describing the alleged crime as a “rare voter fraud case.”

Insisting cheating is rare minimizes the seriousness of the crime. Tornadoes are rare, but people worry when conditions are ripe for one because tornados are destructive.

In Pennsylvania, conditions are ripe for more voter fraud. This case proves it can be done, and no one should be surprised; flimsy rules make it possible.

The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) requires voter registration applicants to provide a valid driver’s license number, or the last four digits of their Social Security number if the applicant does not have a valid driver’s license.

But in 2018, the Pennsylvania Department of State (DOS) issued guidance that removed a safeguard that would have prevented one person from registering multiple times.

The DOS directed counties not to reject voter registrations “based solely on a non-match between” the driver’s license number or Social Security number on a registration application and the “comparison database numbers.”
