GOP Voter Registration Four Times Higher Than Democrats in Pennsylvania

Aug 13, 2024 at 10:32 PM EDT By Martha McHardy

Voter registration among Republicans is four times higher than it is among Democrats in Pennsylvania, according to new data.Decision Desk data shows that GOP voter registration surged in July, with more than 21,000 Republicans signing up to vote. In contrast, only 5,000 Democrats registered to vote in July 2024.

The data also shows that since November 2020, the number ofDemocrats registered to vote in the state has decreased by more than 320,000.

Meanwhile, the number ofRepublicans registered to vote has also dropped, but by a much smaller margin, with 1,400 fewer voterssince 2020.

Pennsylvania is among the 30 states, including the swing states of North Carolina, Nevada, and Arizona, which register voters by requiring a political party designation. If voters refuse to choose a party, they will remain unaffiliated.

Overall, three million fewer people are registered to vote now compared to November 2020, when there were 121 million registrations, according to Decision Desk HQ. The drop is unsurprising given that The National Voting Rights Act (NVRA) allows states to conduct voter roll clean-ups between elections.

However, Decision Desk HQ data shows a discrepancy in the drop in registered voters between the parties, with the Democrats losing 3.5 million registered voters nationally, while the Republicans have gained 141,000 registered voters.

Meanwhile, in 28 of the 30 states that require voters to register with a party,Republicans have net more voter registrations than Democrats (Colorado and California withstanding), picking up more than 225,000 registrations in the first 21 days of July.I want to receive special offers and promotions from Newsweek

For example, Florida has 1 million more Republican registered voters than Democrats, AP reported, with 5.3 million active Republican voters in the state compared to 4.3 million active Democratic voters.

Evan Power, the Florida Republican Party chair, said having this large of a voter registration edge is a win for the Florida Republican Party, which he touted as "the most successful party in the nation." Nikki Fried, chair of the Florida Democratic Party, called the voter registration edge "empty rhetoric."

"While Florida Republicans have spent years dismantling voting rights to inflate their numbers and take victory laps on the voter registration gap, it hasn't stopped Florida Democrats from winning elections like the Jacksonville Mayor's race or flipping State House District 35, both wins that demonstrated a growing lack of enthusiasm for the Republican Party and an increasing number of Independent voters rejecting extremism in Florida," she said in a statement to AP.

Despite the discrepancy in registered voters between the parties, Democrats are starting to pick up in terms of voter registration after Biden ended his re-election campaign, according to Decision Desk HQ, meaning Democrats may see a surge in voter registration nationally in August.

The last few months before election day are always the most fruitful for voter registration. Based on state registration reports provided by election boards across all 50 states, there were more than 6 million new voter registrations in the three months leading up to election day in 2020.

Jim Harbaugh Backpedals: Says He Will Not Hire Kaepernick as Coach or Player

WARNER TODD HUSTON 16 Aug 2024

Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh is back-peddling after news broke that he had offered national anthem protester and social justice warrior Colin Kaepernick a coaching position. Harbaugh initially told the media that he made the offer early this year.

“Yeah, we talked a little bit about it,” Harbaugh said in an interview with USA Today. “He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.”

Despite the surprising discussion, though, Harbaugh is now backtracking and telling the media that Kaepernick is not going to be joining the Chargers in any capacity after all.

“I love Colin, but he’s not going to be on the coaching staff, which is set for this year. And he’s not going to be playing on the roster either,” Harbaugh now says, according to ESPN.

Of course, Harbaugh coached Kaepernick when the two were part of the San Francisco 49ers organization and was present when the team lost the Super Bowl to Baltimore in 2013.

But Harbaugh was long gone before Kaepernick suddenly became the face of anti-Americanism in 2016 when he launched the scheme of taking a knee during the playing of the national anthem to protest against America, our police, our history, our military, and our flag.

Harbaugh had added earlier this week that former Raiders owner Al Davis had convinced him that Kaepernick might have the stuff for coaching.

“Al Davis saw something in me that made him think I would be a good coach, and I see those same qualities in Colin,” Harbaugh told ESPN, “if it is something he chooses.”

Kaepernick has not played since the end of the 2016 season, when he became a free agent and rejected the 49ers’ offer to stay with the team. But he makes an annual publicity grab by claiming he is still in tip-top condition and ready to return to the NFL.

Still, he has also excoriated the league, comparing it to a “slave auction,” and insisting it does not do enough for social justice despite the millions the league has donated to causes — including his own.

In his TV series Colin In Black & White, which he also narrates, the former 49er quarterback appears in a scene where he implies that the NFL is like a slave master and talks about potential NFL players being “poked, prodded, and examined” for defects before an NFL Draft. The players at the “combine” then leave the NFL field and enter a mid-1800s slave auction where white landowners examine slaves for purchase.

In the scene, Kaepernick says this is how “they” establish a “power dynamic.” The scene closes with the NFL coach and slave auctioneer shaking hands against the backdrop of bonded slaves in an attempt to establish a generational link between the professional athlete selection process and slavery.

Coach Harbaugh’s move to offer Kaepernick a coaching job might not be a big surprise, though. He already has three other former 49ers players on his coaching staff: NaVorro Bowman, Jonathan Goodwin, and Will Tukuafu.

Democrats Beg Kamala Harris Not to Release Policy Agenda Before Election

WENDELL HUSEBØ 16 Aug 2024

(The Democrats are willing to keep all voters in the dark about her horrible policies and who she is. They are sick.)

Democrats appear rattled that they could lose Senate, House, and presidential elections if Vice President Kamala Harris is transparent about policy solutions to reverse the administration’s failures.

Harris, who has not held an unscripted press conference for 26 days since joining the race,is facing calls to not only remain hidden from the press but to keep her proposed policies a secret as she prepares to deliver economic proposals in North Carolina on Friday.

Harris, however, already published several policies, such as socialist-style price controls, subsidies for homeowners, and two policies that copy the Trump-Vance ticket: a child tax credit and no tax on tips.

“She doesn’t need to negotiate against herself. We’ve got the biggest possible tent right now,” Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH), told Politico. “I don’t think there’s a real strong reason for her to try to weed out any points of view right now.”

Harris’s honeymoon phase of the campaign energized some Democrats, while others raised concerns against doing anything that could end the phase.

“They [voters] have very little knowledge about who she is, what her job has actually been,” one battleground-district House Democrat said. “They know Trump. They know what his policies are. They don’t know Kamala. And so Kamala has a ton of room right now to define herself.”

Seventy percent of registered Democrats and independents who voted for President Joe Biden in 2020 are mostly in the dark about many of Harris’s controversial and radical positions, a recent poll showed.

The warnings appear to be sinking in. Harris campaign advisers worry about publicly releasing “thorny details” of their economic plan because the specifics might backfire on the campaign, several people familiar with the discussions told the Wall Street Journal.

“Instead, they expect small shifts in emphasis that highlight her résumé and priorities” to hide the details of her agenda “amid concerns from some Democratsthat releasing a lengthy plan could open the vice president up to criticism from Republicans and members of her party,” the Journal reported.

“Kamala needs to stop insulting the intelligence of voters and speak for herself to explain why she is running from every liberal policy she has ever supported,” the Trump campaign’s national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said in a statement, ripping Harris. “The mainstream media needs to stop being complicit in her lies and demand answers.”

The media have not interviewed Harris on television since June 24, 2024. The last time the press reportedly questioned her at a solo news conference was eight months ago — on December 2, 2023.

One reason Harris could be running a “basement” media strategy is to navigate policy debates within her own party. Anonymous campaign aides reportedly flipped-flopped on five of her radical-left policies, such as socialized medicine and fracking.

“There’s already uncertainty with just what does she believe, what she would do,” Jeff Nobers, executive director of Pittsburgh Works Together, told the Washington Post about Harris’s promise to ban fracking. “And if she doesn’t support a ban on fracking, what is her energy policy plan?”
