Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day! Black cats were popular on Royal Navy ships during WWI and WWII because British sailors considered them especially lucky. Several black cats were among the clowder aboard HMS Illustrious when the aircraft carrier arrived in Virginia in 1941 for repairs to bomb damage.
