The breakers were busy, busy beavers as the demand for SuperMax outstripped the older, and smaller fleets. Costs and demand shift rendered idle a lot of tonnage and sent it to the breakers during "MuhSupplyChain" forced idling. The lack of return trade to Chyna kept a shitton of TEUs, in their various forms, stacked empty at the ports. Running SuperMaxes back to Chyna, essentially deadheading the empty boxes, only became "popular" again after the container rates stabilized for the return trip. This took damping the Eastbound route rates as demand tapered. Ship demand got distorted through all that, and the commercial fleet need re-filling out.
It's a cycle, not linear. Been interdasting to watch. That being said, heads up on gCaptain as a dedicated source. He has TDS, despite a deep knowledge set. His sub-linkages are usually even better than he is, such as FreightWaves.
