Russia is demanding answers following the arrest Pavel Durov, the billionaire co-founder and CEO of messaging app Telegram. He was detained by French authorities at the Bourget airport outside of Paris Saturday evening after arriving in his private jet.

The Russian embassy in Paris has demanded that the French government explain itself, and has so far said that French authorities are being uncooperative. The latest reports say Durov is expected to appear before a judge Sunday evening.

The embassy said of the 39-year-old Russian-born billionaire that "as soon as the news of Durov’s arrest broke, we immediately addressed the French authorities for clarification on the reasons for it and demanded that they ensure the protection of his rights and provide consular access to him."

He not only has Russian citizenship by virtue of his birth there, but also holds dual citizenship in France and the UAE.

Russian diplomats say there has been no reply from Paris: "The French side has so far been avoiding cooperation on this issue," a statement said. Russian lawmakers have gone so far as to say he is now a "political prisoner".

Russian member of parliament Maria Butina said on Sunday, "Pavel Durov is a political prisoner - a victim of a witch-hunt by the West.

"The arrest of Pavel Durov means there is no freedom of speech - it means that freedom of speech in Europe is dead," she continued. "Now basically they have a hostage and they will try to blackmail Russia, they will try to blackmail all the users of Telegram and not only try to get control but also try to block the network here in Russia."

Additionally, deputy speaker of Russian parliament, Vladislav Davankov, described that the tech entrepreneur's arrest "could be politically motivated and used to gain access to the personal information of Telegram users."

And Dmitry Medvedev, who is the deputy head of Russia's Security Council, said Durov is being targeted because he's Russian. "He miscalculated," Medvedev said. "For all our common enemies now, he is Russian – and therefore unpredictable and dangerous." Medvedev asserted, "Durov should finally realize that one cannot chose one's the fatherland."

One interesting angle is that the app, well-known for being highly secure as it provides end-to-end encryption, is widely used among the Russian military, as well as the common population.

Israel Launched "Preemptive" Strike On Hezbollah In Lebanon 'To Prevent Major Attack'

Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militia in Lebanon, exchanged some of the heaviest fighting in months on Sunday as fears mount that a direct Iranian retaliatory strike on Israel could spark an all-out regional war.

Israel's military launched preemptive strikes in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah's high-value targets after allegedly detecting movement on the ground that militia forces were preparing to launch a barrage of missiles, rockets, and kamikaze drones into Israel.

Hezbollah announced in a statement that Israel's claim that it launched a pre-emptive attack against Hezbollah's forces to thwart a missile attack was "baseless," further saying, "These are empty claims." The militia said approximately 320 rockets and drone waves were launched into Israel. The IDF said the militia launched about 200 rockets. Hezbollah called the operation a "complete success."

Ukraine’s embassy in African state helping terrorists – RT source

Authorities in Ivory Coast have reportedly been investigating Kiev’s alleged training of Tuareg insurgents

Kiev has been using its embassy in the West African country of Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) as a support center for Tuareg militants in the Sahel region, a source has told RT.

Ukraine has been at the center of a diplomatic storm in Africa since the beginning of August, when dozens of Malian soldiers and Russian military contractors were killed in a rebel ambush in northern Mali. Some officials in Kiev had initially claimed that the Tuareg fighters had carried out their “successful” attack thanks to information from Ukrainian military intelligence service HUR, and warned that “there will be more to come.” However, Ukraine later denied having any links with the militants.

On Friday, Malian newspaper Bamada said that “rumors are circulating” about a possible investigation by Ivory Coast authorities into the conduct of the Ukrainian embassy in the country’s largest city, Abidjan. According to the outlet, the probe is focused on teh diplomatic mission's alleged involvement in coordinating training for insurgents, and using the embassy for shipping drones, the report states.

A source, who talked to RT on Saturday, corroborated most of the claims made by the Malian outlet.

“The Tuareg rebels visited Ivory Coast before undergoing training in Ukraine. There, they probably met with HUR officers and planned how the groups would be heading out for training,” the source said.

According to the RT source, the Ukrainian embassy’s diplomatic mail had been used to organize shipment of drone parts to Ivory Coast, with the UAVs being later assembled in the country.

The embassy in Abidjan is also suspected of working to recruit fighters, the source added.

In its article, Bamada stressed that if Kiev’s involvement in “destabilizing activities in West Africa” is officially confirmed, “it could have major repercussions on relations between Ivory Coast and Ukraine.”

Earlier this week, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso addressed the UN Security Council and asked it to take action against Kiev’s meddling in the Sahel region. The UNSC should “take appropriate measures against these subversive actions which strengthen terrorist groups in Africa and constitute a manifestation of the involvement of foreign state sponsors in the expansion of terrorism in the region,” a statement from the three countries read. The three Sahel states remain under military rule and hav recently severed defense ties with their former colonial power, France.

In early August, Mali and Niger said they were breaking off diplomatic relations with Kiev, over its alleged support of terrorism.

The Port of Seattle and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) experienced a “possible cyberattack” on Saturday that caused significant issues for travelers.

Hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled as officials tried to work out the issue, Fox 13 reported. Authorities encouraged people heading to the airport on Saturday to check with their airlines for updated information regarding their itineraries.

In a social media post on Saturday, SEA explained what was happening and gave further information.

Anti-Trump PAC Continues To Shuffle Millions Of Donor Dollars To Firms Owned By Insiders

Roughly one-third of the funds spent by the Lincoln Project, a PAC founded by ex-Republican political consultants with the aim of stopping former President Donald Trump, this election cycle has gone to firms controlled by its senior operatives, Federal Election Commission (FEC) records show.

The Lincoln Project has spent $12.8 million since January 2023, and just over $4 million of that has gone to firms owned by members of its leadership, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation review of FEC records. Fox Business in 2021 reported that more than half of the $90 million the Lincoln Project had raised for the 2020 election was paid out to firms owned by leaders.

Of the Lincoln Project’s total spending this election cycle, about 31% has gone toward various types of consulting, roughly 16% has gone toward salary or payroll, and around 10% has gone toward producing ads not intended to oppose or support a specific candidate, per FEC records. The organization also spent over half a million dollars on “podcast services” and nearly $1 million on legal fees.

“Their whole schtick is ticking off Donald Trump, and that’s what they sell,” Capital Research Center Senior Investigative Researcher Ken Braun told the DCNF. “They’ve really come up with a unique way of weaponizing negative campaigning against their own donors, and that’s a lot easier of a thing to raise money [off of] than actually being effective. Lever Communications, formerly known as Joe Trippi & Associates, has raked in nearly $1 million from the Lincoln Project this election cycle for consulting and digital advertising work, per campaign finance filings. Trippi is a Democratic strategist and a senior advisor at the Lincoln Project.

Lincoln Project board member and co-founder Rick Wilson’s firm, Intrepid Media, meanwhile, took in $664,000 from the PAC, primarily for “strategy consulting,” disclosures show. Wilson’s son, Andrew, also received a large check courtesy of the Lincoln Project’s donors, with the PAC paying him $105,750 for “corporate campaign management.”

The Lincoln Project has been criticized for self-dealing since it started operating as a PAC in 2019. George Conway, one of the Lincoln Project’s co-founders who left the organization in 2020, even said in March 2021 that the organization “should shut down, absent full disclosure of its finances.” New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, meanwhile, said in 2020 the group entered “scam territory” due to its high fundraising totals and lackluster results, according to Business Insider.

Among its failed campaigns in 2020 was a $2.7 million effort to unseat Montana Republican Sen. Steve Daines, where he won by 10 points, and its $1.7 million spending spree to replace Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins, which resulted in her winning by nine points.

Rasmussen Reports Finds that 3% of 2020 Voters were Non-Citizens Who Plan to Vote Again in 2024

In 2017 a study found that 800,000 non-citizens voted in the 2016 election. This came out to 6.4% of the total non-citizen population in America at that time.

In July 62% of likely American voters were concerned that cheating was going to affect the 2024 election.

Rasmussen in July also found that more than 5% of voters say they are non-citizens. Another 4% were not sure if they were citizens or not.

These voters say they voted and plan on voting again in 2024.

Another study from Rasmussen found that 3% of the 2020 voters were non-citizens who plan to vote again this year in the national election.

Western media can be held legally accountable for its role in the Gaza genocide

Western media companies have made themselves a part of the mechanism of genocide in Palestine, and there are historical precedents for holding them accountable.

The ruthlessness of the Israeli genocide machine in Palestine, and the direct complicity of the U.S., UK, and other Western governments are two key pillars in the horrors being perpetrated against the Palestinian people (and in the attacks on human rights defenders around the globe).

But there is an essential third pillar: the role of complicit Western media corporations knowingly disseminating Israeli disinformation and propaganda, justifying war crimes and crimes against humanity, dehumanizing Palestinians, and blacking out information on the genocide in the West. From the perspective of international human rights law, such actions could and should be subject to sanctions. And there are historical precedents.

Seventy-six years ago, when delegates gathered at the newly established United Nations to draft a Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the importance of protecting freedom of expression was front and center. They would declare that “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”

But, in the wake of a half-century of horrific atrocities, driven in significant part by the dehumanization of millions on the basis of their race, ethnicity, religion, or other status, they were all too well aware that speech could also be used as a powerful weapon to destroy the rights of others, including the right to life itself. Thus, in the same document, the UN made clear that freedom of expression does not grant media corporations or anyone else a right “to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the other rights and freedoms.”

At the same time, in another UN conference room, delegates were gathered to create a new Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. There too, the drafters were aware of the danger of speech that dehumanizes and incites. The final convention would criminalize not just genocide, but also incitement to genocide and complicity in genocide- prohibitions that apply not only to states but to private actors as well.

The drafters of both instruments were aware of the conviction in the Nuremburg Tribunal just two years earlier of publisher Julius Streicher for incitement and “persecution on political and racial grounds.” The court found that Streicher’s media publication Der Sturmer continued to publish articles that included “incitement to murder and extermination” even while he was aware of the horrors that were being perpetrated against European Jews by Nazi Germany.

Fifty years later, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) would convict three media personalities for their role in inciting the Rwanda genocide. Two worked for the Mille Collines television and radio company and one for the Kangura newspaper. All three were found guilty of incitement to genocide (among other crimes). During sentencing, ICTR Judge Navi Pillay (now a commissioner on the UN’s international commission of enquiry investigating Israel’s crimes) admonished the perpetrators: “You were fully aware of the power of words, and you used the…medium of communication with the widest public reach to disseminate hatred and violence…Without a firearm, machete or any physical weapon, you caused the death of thousands of innocent civilians.”

Der Sturmer knew what they were doing. Mille Collines knew what they were doing. And, today, CNN, Fox, BBC, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal know what they are doing. This is not to say that these Western outlets are in every sense the modern equivalents Der Sturmer and Milles Collines (they are not). But, like these historic examples, they have recklessly crossed the boundaries of ethical journalism and, in some cases, may find themselves legally exposed as well.

Over 70 people killed in Israeli military operations in Gaza in past day
