Dutch Gov't Slaps Uber With Record $324 Million Fine For "Transferring Driver Data To US"

The Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) fined Uber Technologies Inc. a record 290 million euros ($324 million) for transferring the personal data of European taxi drivers to US data centers.

AP said the transfer of European taxi drivers' personal data to the US is a "serious violation" of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The sensitive information collected from drivers included account details and taxi licenses, location data, photos, payment details, IDs, and even criminal data and medical records.

"In Europe, the GDPR protects people's fundamental rights by requiring companies and governments to handle personal data with care," AP President Aleid Wolfsen wrote in a statement, adding, "But unfortunately, this is not self-evident outside Europe. Think of governments that can tap data on a large scale."

Russian Defense Ministry Revealed Targets Of Massive Strikes

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation released another comment on today’s waves of strikes in Ukraine, revealing the targets of the attack. The Russian military officially confirmed that the targets included both military and energy infrastructure facilities that provides for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The targets of the strike included electrical substations in Kiev, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Kirovograd and Odessa regions.

California Colludes With Big-Tech To Wield Control Over Local Newsrooms, Incorporate AI

Remember when the government colluded with Big Tech to censor news detrimental to Democrats ahead of the 2020 election? Well, they’re at it again, this time openly bragging about their latest collusion.

California has announced the first-ever “partnership” with Google and Meta (Facebook’s parent company) to fund local newsrooms and launch a government artificial intelligence program.

With a price tag of $250 million—$175 million from taxpayers and $55 million from Google—this program will provide direct financial support to newsrooms.

The deal emerged as a settlement between Big Tech and the state government after California Democrats threatened to impose fees on platforms that profit from news content.

The multi-million-dollar fund will be managed by the UC Berkeley School of Journalism and disbursed to newsrooms over five years, with annual approvals required.

Critics have warned about the dangers of government and social media giants sponsoring the news.

“This is beyond Orwellian,” said Dan Schneider, the vice president of a free speech department at the Media Research Center (MRC). “With a tiny portion of its annual revenue, Google is going to use every reporter and news outlet to remake society in its own warped image.”

15 Interpol countries join hunt for WWII Nazi SS veteran – Moscow

Yaroslav Hunka, who was honored by Canada’s parliament, is wanted in Russia for hundreds of murders

Some 15 Interpol member states have joined Russia’s efforts to find and extradite Yaroslav Hunka, the Waffen-SS veteran honored by Canada’s parliament last year, the Russian Interior Ministry announced on Monday.

The 99-year-old Hunka made headlines when he appeared in the Canadian parliament as a guest during a visit by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky last year. Hunka, whose Waffen-SS unit carried out atrocities against Jews and Poles on the Eastern Front during World War II, received a standing ovation, for which Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was later forced to apologize.

After trying to extradite Hunka, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office announced last week that the Ukrainian-Canadian Nazi had finally been added to Interpol’s database, and that Moscow will seek his extradition if he left Canada.

As of Monday, 15 Interpol member states have agreed to arrest Hunka if he enters their territory, the Russian Interior Ministry said in a statement.

“All war criminals who committed bloody atrocities against civilians will receive the punishment they deserve,” the ministry said. “After all, there is no statute of limitations for such crimes.”

Hunka was a member of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, also known as the Galicia Division. Formed by the Nazi regime in 1943, the Galicia Division was made up primarily of Ukrainian recruits from the eponymous region, in what is now western Ukraine and eastern Poland.

Russia has accused Hunka of involvement in the murder of at least 500 Soviet citizens.

Before receiving a standing ovation last year, Hunka was introduced to Canadian lawmakers by House Speaker Anthony Rota as “a Ukrainian hero, a Canadian hero… who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians.”

The Russian Interior Ministry did not list all of the countries that have agreed to pursue Hunka. However, Poland has pushed for his extradition since last year, while the head of Israel’s Anti-Fascist Movement said last week that his organization has called on any “country that harbors this criminal” to turn him over.

Zelensky: Russian Strikes Cause ‘Heavy Damage’ to Ukrainian Power Grid, Blackouts ‘Everywhere’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered an alarming update on nationwide Russian bombings of his country on Monday, describing blackouts “everywhere” and significant harm to Ukraine’s power grid.

The Russian military launched a sweeping drone and missile campaign on Monday in which it reportedly focused on bombing energy infrastructure. Israel Forces 2.3 Million Palestinians to Live in Just 11% of Gaza

Over the past ten months, Israel has limited the area Palestinians in Gaza can live to just 11% of the 139 sq. miles narrow strip of land along the Mediterranean Sea.

According to the United Nations, the Israeli Defense Forces issued a series of evacuation orders to Palestinians, pushing the 2.3 million people into two overcrowded areas, Muwasi and Deir Al-Balah. The total area of the regions dubbed humanitarian zones in Gaza is about 15 sq. miles.

Throughout the conflict, Israel has defined a shrinking area of Gaza as a safe zone or humanitarian zone where Palestinians can live without fear of conflict. However, the IDF has bombed multiple safe zones.

Palestinians and aid agencies have argued that the Israeli instructions for reaching safe zones are often confusing and come without enough notice. Tel Aviv has presented the humanitarian zones as efforts to curb civilian casualties.

On Sunday, Israel ordered the evacuation of 11 neighborhoods in Gaza.

At Least Three Killed in Israeli Airstrikes on Central Syrian City of Hama

10 others reported wounded in attacks, mostly civilians

On Friday evening, Israeli warplanes carried out a series of attacks on four different targets in and around the provinces of Hama and Homs and central Syria. The attacks targeted Syrian air defenses and sites believed to have a non-Syrian militia presence.

Reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights were that three people were killed, all with some unidentified “pro-Iran militia,” and 10 other people were wounded. The attack on the air defense battery in Homs Province was near the Lebanon border.

Syrian state media reported that at least seven of the wounded were civilians. They also added that some of the missiles fired by the Israeli warplanes were intercepted during the course of the attack.

In addition to the Homs air defense battery, the sites targeted were identified by the Observatory as a Hama weapons depot, the administration of the 47th brigade, and another air defense battery in Ma’arin Mountain, which reportedly was being used as a deployment site by Shi’ite militias.

Other reports from another opposition figure were that the Israeli attacks in Hama also targeted a scientific research center and a veterinary college. The research center had reportedly been used in the past to develop Scud missiles.

Israel has been carrying out a growing number of attacks on neighboring countries in recent months, with an active war in the Gaza Strip and a growing air war against Lebanon. Attacks in Syria are less frequent, but have been ongoing for years, despite Israel’s claims of neutrality in the Syrian Civil War.

All-Cause Deaths Are Surging Among Covid-Vaxxed, Study Warns

An alarming new study has revealed that deaths from all causes are soaring dramatically among those who have received Covid mRNA shots compared to the unvaccinated.

The discovery was revealed in a study by an Italian team of researchers led by Professor Marco Alessandria of the University of Turin and Dr. Alberto Donzelli, M.D. of Italy’s Independent Medical-Scientific Commission.

The researchers analyzed data from a previously published study from Rosso et al. involving data from the population of the mostly rural Italian province of Pescara.

However, the researchers became concerned with the issue of immortal time bias (ITB) impacting previous studies on Covid vaccines.

They explain that the common issue of ITB can give misleading results to studies and they believe this has been the case with most studies that claim Covid “vaccines” are safe.

They note that a typical study would only record deaths related to a vaccine if the participants died within the period the study was conducted.

For example, if a six-month study into the safety of Covid shots found that nobody died during the period of analysis, the researchers would conclude that the injections were “safe.”

However, if 90 percent of the participants died after one year, they would not be recorded in the study, and therefore, the obvious risk would not be highlighted.

With this in mind, the researchers conducted a new study that revises the data from Rosso et al. with adjustments made to counter ITB.

The leaks, according to the newspaper, involve tens of thousands of sensitive documents and emails stolen from Israeli institutions, including the Justice Ministry.

The attacks, which began on Oct. 7, 2023, have targeted a wide range of entities, from military and defense contractors to hospitals and government ministries. The scale of the breach has overwhelmed Israel’s cybersecurity infrastructure.

“The true extent of the damage to Israel’s security and economy caused by these leaks is not yet fully known,” a source close to the investigation revealed. “Despite massive investment in defensive cybersecurity measures, the scale of the leaks is likely the most severe in Israel's history – an unprecedented looting of gigabytes upon gigabytes of information of all sorts."

The leaked data has appeared on platforms like Telegram, prompting a series of takedown attempts by Israeli authorities. However, Telegram’s limited moderation policies have complicated these efforts.

“Telegram emerged at the start of the war as a key platform utilized by Hamas' information warfare against Israel, one Israel was unable to properly address, lacking both monitoring capabilities and an understanding of the platform,” Haaretz reported.

Israeli has sought to mitigate the damage through legal measures and direct negotiations with tech giants such as Google, Amazon and Meta. Yet the hackers have adapted by using decentralized hosting services and "onion domains" which obscure the source of the data and hinder takedown efforts.

Israel has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip following an attack by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023.

The conflict has resulted in over 40,170 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, and more than 92,740 injuries, according to local health authorities.

The ongoing blockade of Gaza has led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine, leaving much of the region in ruins.

Free at-home COVID-19 tests will be available again, HHS officials say

The federal government will restart its free at-home COVID tests program in September as officials prepare the country for the upcoming respiratory virus season.

Dawn O'Connell, assistant secretary for preparedness and response at the Department of Health and Human Services, said Friday that this is the seventh time the Biden-Harris administration has allowed Americans to order over-the-counter tests at no charge.

It's not clear when the website, COVID.gov/tests, will come back online. The website stopped accepting orders in early March.

"As families start to move indoors this fall and begin spending time with their loved ones, both very old and very young, they will once again have the opportunity to order up to four new COVID-19 tests free of charge and have them sent directly to their homes," O'Connell told reporters. "These tests will help keep families and their loved ones safe this fall and winter season."

She added that the tests will be able to detect infection from currently circulating variants.

During the same media briefing, federal officials said the summer uptick of COVID cases is not leading to a similar surge in hospitalizations and deaths as seen in previous years.

Dr. Mandy Cohen, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said immunity from vaccination and previous COVID infection have helped limit the burden of COVID on the health care system.

"I do want to acknowledge that we continue to see a lot of COVID-19 activity across the country right now in tests coming back from labs," Cohen said, adding, "Circulating COVID disease is not translating into similar increases in emergency room visits and hospitalizations or deaths."

Cohen said the severity of COVID is starting to look similar to flu but noted that COVID is still more dangerous.

According to a federal forecast for the upcoming respiratory virus season, the U.S. can expect similar or slightly improved figures in terms of peak hospitalizations when looking at COVID, flu and RSV together, she said.

"We know that protection decreases over time, and certain groups continue to be at higher risk from COVID and other viruses and we need to continue to protect ourselves and our loved ones," Cohen said.

Officials also reiterated who should get vaccinated for COVID, flu and RSV ahead of the upcoming respiratory virus season.

For COVID-19 and flu, the CDC recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older receive a COVID and flu vaccine, including pregnant women. Cohen said individuals can receive both vaccines at the same time.

On Thursday, the FDA approved and granted emergency use authorization for updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna for the upcoming fall and winter season.

COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers told ABC News the vaccines are expected to be available in the coming week.

For RSV, all infants younger than 8 months old and infants between 8 months and 18 months who are high risk should get vaccinated. RSV vaccination is also recommended for pregnant women between 32 weeks and 36 weeks gestation as well as all adults ages 75 and older and adults between ages 60 and 74 who are at high risk.

In addition to tests, O'Connell said Paxlovid, an antiviral drug used to treat COVID-19 infections for those at risk of hospitalization, will be available for free for individuals on Medicare and Medicaid as well as for those who are uninsured.

Beginning in 2025 and running through 2028, Pfizer, which manufactures Paxlovid, will take over the patient assistance program for individuals who are uninsured and underinsured, O'Connell said.

Additionally, Merck's patient assistance program will continue to administer Lagevrio, an antiviral used to treat patients in need of hospitalization from COVID-19, to those who are uninsured.

"Distributing at-home tests and securing access to treatments is an essential part of the Biden Harris administration's efforts to ensure that we are as prepared as possible for the upcoming fall and winter respiratory season," O'Connell said.
