Burkina Faso nationalized two colonial gold mines.

This is what actually happened:
Two gold mines in Burkina Faso, Boungou and Wahgnion, were originally owned by Endeavour Mining, a publicly traded North American company. In 2023, Endeavour sold these mines to Lilium Mining, a company owned by West African entrepreneurs. However, after the sale, Lilium missed over $100 million in payments according to Endeavour, and Lilium claimed that Endeavour misrepresented the financial situation of the mines.
To resolve the dispute, the Burkina Faso government stepped in and reached a settlement. As part of the deal, the government took control of the mines from Lilium. In return, they agreed to compensate Endeavour with $60 million and a 3% royalty on gold produced at one of the mines, Wahgnion.
So the mines were taken from an African company by the Burkina Faso government. The government compensated the North American company who originally owned the mines and agreed to keep paying them forever.
