Lavrov accuses Israel of trying to provoke Iran into war

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has made a statement accusing Israel of trying to start a full-scale conflict in the Middle East.

In an interview with the Russian television channel RT, he expressed the opinion that Israel is most interested in aggravating the situation in the region. According to Lavrov, the Israeli government may try to take advantage of the current tensions to once and for all resolve its long-standing conflicts, both with Hamas, Hezbollah, and with various pro-Iranian groups in Syria, Iraq, and ultimately with Iran itself.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Israel has long been taking steps aimed at provoking military action in Iran. However, in his opinion, despite these efforts, Tehran has so far refrained from an open response, although it reserves the right to protect its interests. Lavrov also added that the United States and other Western countries, including France, intervened in the situation. Now, according to Lavrov, they are trying to convince Iran not to respond to provocations, which, in his opinion, changes the situation: the West is now more concerned about Iran’s restraint than about Israel’s actions.
Earlier, Kursor reported that Lavrov had said Israel was waiting for the US presidential election in the hope of reducing international pressure on negotiations with Hamas.
