Trump holds 5-point lead over Kamala among men: ABC/Ipsos poll

Pre-Democratic National Convention, Harris held a six-point lead over Trump among women (51-45 percent) and a three-point lead among men over Trump (49-46 percent).

Washington DC

A new poll has found that a majority of men support Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election, while a majority of women support Kamala Harris. This is a shift from polling done before the Democratic National Convention, where Harris held a slight lead among both demographics.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll, released on Sunday, found that 51 percent of American men support Trump, while 46 percent of men said they would vote for Harris. Among women, 54 percent said they support Harris, while 41 percent said they would vote for Trump.

Pre-Democratic National Convention, Harris held a six-point lead over Trump among women (51-45 percent) and a three-point lead among men over Trump (49-46 percent).

Among the demographics leading this change are white men and women.Among white women, Trump saw a 13-point lead over Harris pre-convention. Post-DNC, however, Trump is now holding a 2-point lead over Harris. And among white men, Trump went from holding a 13-point lead over Harris to a 21-point lead post-DNC.

Harris has not seen a bump in polling post-DNC. In the most recent poll, Harris received 50 percent support to Trump’s 46 percent. In a poll released on August 13, just days before the DNC, Harris received 50 percent while Trump received 45 percent.

The poll was conducted between August 23 and 27 of 2,496 American adults and has a margin of error of 2 percent.

Trump was trusted more than Harris to handle topics such as the economy (46-38 percent), the border crisis (45-36 percent) inflation (44-36 percent) and the Israel-Hamas war (40-33 percent, while Harris was trusted more than Trump to handle topics like healthcare (45-35 percent), abortion (47-31 percent), gun violence 42-36 percent). on the topic of crime and safety, Trump and Harris were tied at 41 percent, with more people responding that they "strongly" trust Trump more on the topic than Harris (30-25 percent).

GUNS IN AMERICA-Yes thats how A.BC. Labels not killers in America

4 killed on train in Chicago-area appeared asleep before shootings, police say

A suspect was later arrested in connection with the shootings, which took place on two train

Four people fatally shot on a commuter train in the Chicago area early Monday appeared to be attacked while asleep in their seats, police said in an afternoon update.

The victims, whose names, ages, and genders were still unavailable, appeared to be asleep, were seated apart, and did not resist the attack, the Forest Park Police Department said, citing a review of security footage.

A suspect has been taken into custody and a weapon was recovered, Forest Park Deputy Chief Chris Chin said at a news conference. (They refuse to identify the killer, probably illegal or black)

The motive remained unknown. The name of the person in custody was not released.

"This appears to be an isolated incident on this unfortunate day," Chin said. "It's a horrible situation."

The department got a 911 call around 5:27 a.m. about victims with gunshot wounds on Chicago Transit Authority train at the Blue Line station at 711 Desplaines Avenue, Forest Park, it said on Facebook.

Police found four people with gunshot wounds. Three were pronounced dead at the scene, and the fourth died at Loyola University Medical Center, police said.

All four victims were passengers, Chin said at the news conference.

The shooting took place on two train cars, Chin said at the news conference. The train was in motion when gunfire erupted, he said.

The suspect, whose description was informed by security video, was found on a Pink Line train, police said. NBC Chicago reported Chicago police found the suspect when officers noticed a passenger matching the shooter's description.

Forest Park police said in the update that investigators were also trying to track down a person they believed witnessed the attack.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) called the shooting a "heinous and egregious act of violence" that should never have happened on a public train.

"As soon as this matter was reported, CTA immediately deployed resources to assist the Forest Park Police in their investigation into the matter, including review of all possible security camera footage, which proved to be vital in aiding local enforcement," the CTA said.

The CTA said it will continue to work with local police to investigate the shooting.

"Surveillance video is vital in a lot of our investigations," Chin of Forest Park police said, "especially this one."

Forest Park is 10 miles west of downtown Chicago.

Tim Walz unharmed after vehicles in motorcade crash

Multiple cars travelling in the motorcade carrying Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic candidate for vice-president, crashed in Milwaukee.

Mr Walz was not hurt.

The crash happened around 13:00 local time (18:00 GMT) on Monday. The cars involved were at the rear of the motorcade and were carrying members of the press who travel with Mr Walz.

Reporters said they were "violently thrown forward" after being hit from behind, sending their vehicle into the car in front of them. At least one person was injured.

It is unclear what caused the crash, which occurred on Interstate 794.

Vice-President Kamala Harris, his running mate, phoned Mr Walz to check that he was OK, a White House official told CBS, the BBC's US partner. Mr Walz said he also received a call from President Joe Biden.

==One person appeared to have broken an arm and was being treated by medics, according to a pool reporter travelling with Mr Walz.=+

The affected vehicles pulled over to the side of the road as Mr Walz continued ahead to a scheduled appearance.

Mr Walz addressed the incident in his remarks at a Milwaukee Labor Day event shortly after the crash.

"Some of my staff and members of the press that were travelling up with us were involved in a traffic accident on the way here today. We’ve spoken with the staff," he told the crowd. "I’m relieved to say that with a few minor injuries, everybody’s going to be okay.”

Mr Walz thanked the Secret Service and local first responders "for their quick reaction to help".

Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance also responded to the reports, writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, "Hoping everyone's OK."

It's not the first time the campaign has faced a motorcade-related crash.

Last week, a Georgia policeman crashed his motorcycle while travelling with the campaign convoy.

The officer, Savannah Police Corporal David Bates, was the only person involved in the crash and sustained "serious injuries".

NPR reported that motorcade vehicles are often driven by campaign staff who may or may not have professional driving experience.

(Bad luck to those who ride with Tim Walz. Beware idiots)

‘Ticking time bomb’: Plunging office values alarm Washington

Fed Chair Jerome Powell has voiced concern, saying that commercial real estate risk “will be with us for some time, probably for years.”

Sept. 2, 2024

Four and a half years after the pandemic sent workers home, the office property bill is finally coming due.

The market for office buildings — already reeling from higher vacancy rates amid the rise in remote-work policies — has been crushed by high borrowing costs, and while the Federal Reserve is at last preparing to cut interest rates, it may be too little, too late. Investors, banks and property owners are now beginning to accept that some commercial buildings will never recover their pre-pandemic value, and that’s leading to a steady drumbeat of distressed sales.

The market’s troubles have caught the attention of Congress — with one New York lawmaker calling it a “ticking time bomb” for banks as nearly $1 trillion in commercial real estate loans are coming due this year. Faced with vacant office buildings and a shortage of millions of homes to meet demand, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is trying to make it easier for developers to convert underused properties into housing.

“This would absolutely help lenders recoup some of their investment while allowing them to align with the current needs of the market,” said Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio) who introduced a bill this summer establishing a temporary 20 percent tax credit for qualified property conversion expenditures.

“The pandemic caused a seismic shift in work patterns,” said Carey, who offered the bill with Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.). “We see these vacant office buildings as a well of untapped potential.”

Over the last four months, seven office properties were sold at a staggering loss of more than $100 million each, up from just one such sale in the first three months of the year.Banks and investors will have to take significant haircuts — one midtown Manhattan office building sold at a 97.5 percent discount in July — and operate on tighter margins as the market resets. That will potentially squeeze lending elsewhere just as the economy is slowing.

(The Trump curse, assholes)

New York state lawmakers have also sought to stanch the bleeding by encouraging conversions to housing: New York City developers who set aside a quarter of an office conversion’s units for affordable housing can qualify for a 90 percent tax abatement.

Still, conversions take time, and many office buildings are unsuitable candidates.

“It will happen when it can, and it’s a good thing,” said Lisa Pendergast, executive director of the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council. “It’s just not enough to save the office market in the near term.”

Fed Chair Jerome Powell has voiced concern, saying commercial real estate risk “will be with us for some time, probably for years,” in Senate testimony this summer. The Fed is expected to cut interest rates this month for the first time in more than four years.

Roughly $930 billion in commercial real estate loans will come due this year, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Commercial mortgages are financed on shorter terms than residential mortgages, often with balloon payments, or large lump sum payments, due at maturity. Many of those loans will have to be refinanced at a substantially higher interest rate than they carry now.

About 70 percent of bank-held commercial real estate mortgages sit on the balance sheets of regional and smaller lenders — a source of alarm for regulators, since smaller banks don’t have the capital reserves or other lines of business to fall back on that larger banks have.

Bidan-Harris is the reason for rising costs on commercial and housing costs. Politico acts like its some kind of mystery or blames it on Covid. O'Leary said months ago when NY was prosecuting Trump many big commercial owners are leaving NY in droves because if they can do this to Trump they will do it to all the others.
