Jane Stanford was co-founder of Stanford University.
In 1905 she was murdered with strychnine poison in Hawaii.
The then president of Stanford showed up in the islands soon afterward (you had to sail back then), met with the coroner and got her cause of death changed from poison to heart failure - even though it was inconsistent with the symptoms listed on the death certificate, the eyewitness accounts and all of the evidence - like the bottle with poison in it she drank from right before dying in a highly poisoned-esque fashion.
This prevented a murder investigation and became the official truth of the matter for the next eighty years.
