New poll sees Democrats’ lead in the race for Minnesota House cut in half

A change in only four seats could give the Republicans a majority in the chamber for the first time since 2018.

A new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll shows the Democrats’ lead in the race for the Minnesota House of Representatives has been cut in half.

According to the new poll, 48% of respondents said they were generally more inclined to vote for a Democrat in their local House district; 43% said they were generally more inclined to vote for a Republican. Meanwhile, 8% of respondents said they were undecided and 2% said they would support another candidate. The poll was conducted between Aug. 27-29.

This five-point lead by the Democrats is a marked shift from just a few weeks ago.

In July, a different KSTP/SurveyUSA poll indicated that Democrats had a 10-point lead in the race for the Minnesota House—Democrats at 50% and Republicans at 40%. That poll was conducted just days after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to serve as the new Democratic nominee.

Both polls surveyed over 600 “likely November voters” in Minnesota and have credibility intervals of 4.5 points and 4.4 points respectively.

Democrats currently have a 70-64 majority in the Minnesota House of Representatives. As such, a change in only four seats could give the Republicans a majority in the chamber for the first time since 2018.

In the race for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota, incumbent Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar has a commanding lead over her Republican challenger, according to KSTP/SurveyUSA’s August poll. Royce White, the GOP candidate, trails Klobuchar by 14 points (50% to 36%). Additionally, 11% of respondents said they were undecided in the U.S. Senate race, and another 4% said they would vote for someone else. According to KSTP, Klobuchar’s lead has shrunk by 8 points since the July poll.

Klobuchar, the heavy favorite in the race, is seeking her fourth term in the United States Senate. She has won each of her previous three elections by more than 20 points. White, who previously ran for the U.S. House in 2022, is a political activist and former basketball player.

(Thank You, Kamattack for choosing Walz as VP, because his perversions and lies would not have been truly revealed until you made such a bad choice. Plus PA may win more republican votes because you shunned the Gov. Great job so, keep on making bad decisions!)
