Some Alaska natives wound caribou instead of kill them, dig a pit, and put it in there to die slowly. They do this to get high on the adrenalized blood and meat.

Further north, Eskimos do the same thing by clubbing seals.

Spanish stuck spears in the bulls for the same reason.
