Human trafficking now among the crimes that have no statute of limitations in the Virgin Islands.
Governor Kenneth Mapp approved 14 bills brought forward by the 32nd Legislature, signing them into law, Government House announced Thursday.
Bill No. 32-0129 is now law amending title 14 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 3A relating to human trafficking. This Act is entitled, "The Virgin Islands Uniform Prevention of and Remedies for Human Trafficking Act" and also amends title 5 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 303, section 3 541 relating to the statute of limitations for prosecuting the crime of human trafficking.
Section 2 of the bill amendments title 5, section 3541, subsection (a) (1) of the Virgin Islands Code. That statute is the statute of limitations for prosecuting criminal offenses. Section 2 would place human trafficking among the crimes that have not statute of limitations.
