Votes for Cornel West and Claudia De la Cruz will count in Georgia for nowJEFF AMY Mon, September 16, 2024

Election 2024-Georgia

ASSOCIATED PRESS

ATLANTA (AP) — In yet another reversal, votes in Georgia forpresidential candidates Cornel West and Claudia De la Cruz will count for now after the Georgia Supreme Court paused orders disqualifying them.

The court's decision Sunday came as Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's office said military and overseas ballots will be mailed beginning Tuesday with West and De la Cruz listed as candidates.

This doesn't guarantee that votes for the two will be counted. They could still be disqualified by the state high court, in which case votes for them would be discarded.

West is running as an independent in Georgia. De la Cruz is the nominee for the Party of Socialism and Liberation but she technically qualified for the Georgia ballot as an independent.

Presidential choices for Georgia voters will definitely includeRepublican Donald Trump, Democrat Kamala Harris, Libertarian Chase Oliver and Green Party nominee Jill Stein, the most candidates since 2000. But if West and De la Cruz are also included, it would be the first time since 1948 that more than four candidates seek Georgia's presidential electors.

Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians automatically qualify for elections in Georgia.

In an interview Friday in the Atlanta suburb of Decatur, before a campaign appearance in nearby Clarkston, De la Cruz said she wasn't “naive” about how hard it would be to put her name before voters, likening efforts to keep her off the ballot to efforts to keep people from voting.

“We know just how undemocratic the electoral system, the so-called democracy of this country is,” De la Cruz said. “We knew that we were going to face challenges here in Georgia., in the South, just generally there’s a history of voter suppression, and I don’t think that we can disconnect voter suppression with what’s happening with ballot access for third party candidates and independent candidates.”

Georgia is one of several states where Democrats and allied groups have filed challenges to third-party and independent candidates, seeking to block candidates who could siphon votes from Harris after President Joe Biden won Georgia by fewer than 12,000 votes in 2020. In Georgia, Democrats argue West and De la Cruz should be denied access because their 16 electors didn't file petitions in their own names.

Republicans in Georgia intervened, seeking to keep all the candidates on the ballot, and the party has pushed to prop up liberal third-party candidates such as West and Stein in battleground states in an effort to hurt Harris.

Those interests have contributed to a flurry of legal activity in Georgia. An administrative law judge disqualified West, De la Cruz, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and the Georgia Green Party from the ballot. Raffensperger, a Republican, overruled the judge, and said West and De la Cruz should get access. He also ruled that under a new Georgia law, Stein should go on Georgia ballots because the national Green Party had qualified her in at least 20 other states.

Kennedy's name stayed off ballots because he withdrew his candidacy in Georgia and a number of other states after suspending his campaign and endorsing Trump. Superior Court judges in Atlanta then agreed with Democrats who appealed Raffensperger's decisions on West and De la Cruz, disqualifying them and setting the stage for the fight to move to the state Supreme Court.

Trump Has Survived More Assassination Attempts Than Harris Has Campaign Interviews

(It’s not like we will bring a gun.KEK)

OPINION

GAGE KLIPPER COMMENTARY & ANALYSIS WRITER September 16, 2024

Kamala Harris has sat for just one and a half interviews since she was anointed the Democratic nominee. Meanwhile, Donald Trump just survived a second assassination attempt.

So, it’s seemingly easier to threaten the life of the Republican nominee than it is to interview the Democratic one. That really says all you need to know about the state of American politics.

Harris has dodged, dipped, ducked, dived and dodged interviews as much as possible. She sat for one with CNN alongside her running mate, apparently needing a big strong man like Tim Walz to shield her from all the not-so-tough questions. She also sat one-on-one with an ABC affiliate in Philadelphia on Friday. Being generous, we’ll tally that up to 1.5 “real” interviews. Yet the corporate media don’t seem to care that they’re being denied access in what they all keep assuring is the most important election of our lifetimes.

Meanwhile, Trump survived yet another assassination attempt Sunday evening. We have a name and some speculation on motive, including that the shooter hated Trump, according to the Daily Mail. But don’t expect to get much more out of the FBI and Secret Service, who buried the first shooting completely. They still expect us to believe the first shooter was the only Zoomer on Earth with no social media presence. Of course, the corporate press couldn’t be bothered to dig.

It would be nice to live in a country where the press has more access to the Democratic nominee than would-be assassins have to the Republican nominee. And it would be great to have a media that could at least put on the pretense of doing their job.

‘Just Stop’: Ex-CNN Analyst Unloads On People Downplaying Trump Assassination Attempts

JASON COHEN CONTRIBUTOR September 16, 202412:45 PM ET

Former CNN political analyst Chris Cilizza on Monday criticized people who are downplaying the assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump.

Trump faced a second assassination attempt on Sunday but experienced no injury this time as a Secret Service agent fired shots at a man with a semi-automatic rifle while the former president was golfing at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. Cillizza, on his YouTube channel, said people who minimize the gravity of the attempts on Trump’s life undermine “our democracy” and must stop.

WATCH:

“I think it is so stupid and counterproductive to spend time trying to downplay the fact that … two times there have been people trying to kill him over the last 90 days. We are not a country in which political violence can be condoned. And just because Donald Trump helped incite Jan. 6 does not make two wrongs equal a right, right?” Cillizza said.

“We need to be better than that — not the same or worse. It is a bad thing that twice in 90 days the nominee of one of the two major parties was the victim or the focus of an attempted assassination, period.”

Trump was shot in his right ear during a July 13 assassination attempt during his rally in Butler Township, Pennsylvania, that left former volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore dead. Some claimed following the assassination attempt that Trump got struck by glass fragments rather than a bullet, but the FBI clarified in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation that it was a bullet that hit the former president.

Cillizza said people questioning whether Trump was shot “are bringing ourselves down, way down, to a place that we don’t want to be as a nation.”

“Political violence is wrong, period, whether it’s against Donald Trump or anyone else. And yes, the attempt at political violence, even if this guy on Sunday didn’t fire any shots is wrong, period,” he added.

“I just think there is so much as it comes to Donald Trump that is legitimate for criticism, for dislike and for a vote against that when you spend your time mired in these waters, you are doing a disservice, not just to yourself but to who we are as a people and to our democracy. So just stop doing it. Leave it be … You beat him at the ballot box, you don’t beat him by violence or the threat of violence.”

The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, who was arrested Sunday in connection with the second assassination attempt, appears to have previously donated to Democrats while living in Hawaii, according to federal campaign finance records.

Businessman Howard Lutnick Says Economists Opposing Trump’s Economic Plan Is ‘Partisan Nonsense’

NICOLE SILVERIO MEDIA REPORTER September 16, 20241:06 PM ET

Businessman Howard Lutnick said on Monday that the group of economists publicly opposing Republican nominee Donald Trump’s economic policies are playing politics.

Sixteen Nobel Prize-winning economists signed a letter in June arguing that Trump’s economic policies would worsen inflation and cause long-lasting harm to the global economy.Lutnick compared this letter to the document signed by 51 intelligence officials in October 2020that previously cast doubt on the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s laptop during a segment on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

“I think it’s just partisan politics, it’s amazing,” Lutnick said. “It’s like, you remember the 51 intelligence officers who said the Biden laptop was Russian disinformation, and it was just like, Hunter Biden’s laptop, which the FBI must have known in like, what, 10 seconds they knew it was real? So, it’s like saying 15 Nobel laureates, including Janet Yellen’s husband, signs a piece of paper saying, ‘This economics is better than the other.’ It’s just partisan nonsense.”

Some of the economists have repeatedly supported and donated to President Joe Biden’s campaign in 2020, Fox News reported. Economist Joseph Stiglitz, who spearheaded the letter, reportedly donated $1,250 to the Biden Victory Fund in 2020 and signed a letter supporting the president’s Build Back Better agenda.

Georgetown University Professor George A. Akerlof, another signatory, is married to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and donated $25,000 to the Biden Victory Fund in 2020, according to Fox News. Harvard University economist and historian Claudia Goldin donated $500 to the Biden campaign in 2020 and 2024, while economist and mathematician Eric Maskin donated $3,000 to Democrats in recent years.

Lutnick said the only effective way to combat inflation is to reduce energy costs and stop the Federal Reserve from printing money. He further argued that the passage of the American Rescue Plan by President Joe Biden’s administration and the rise in energy costs led to the current inflation.

“We all knew where inflation came from. It’s called the American Rescue Plan, $2 trillion of spending,”Lutnick continued. “Look, you can’t produce inflation without printing money. You don’t print money, you can’t produce inflation.”

The American Rescue Plan, which Biden signed into law in March 2021, provided hundreds of billions in funding to schools and small businesses, as well as sending $1,400 stimulus checks to most Americans. Some economists have attributed the administration’s high spending, partially done through the American Rescue Plan and the $750 billion Inflation Reduction Act, for the continued surge in inflation.

Co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin argued supply chain issues also contributed to inflation and that the Federal Reserve printed money during the Trump administration.Lutnick said the Trump administration did not print “too much” money, and argued that the Biden administration has caused oil prices to skyrocket.

“We just won’t drill on it because we don’t want to,” Lutkin said. We want to break, the Democratic Party does not want you in a fossil fuel car. They want to break the fossil fuel car, they want to break mobility. You want to break mobility? You break middle America. You can’t have electric cars operating in middle America, it doesn’t work. So that breaks the rule …So we need fossil fuels for the next 30 and 40 years.

The U.S. may have been able to produce at least an additional 2 million barrels of oil per day since 2021 if the Biden administration had adopted similar policies as those enacted during former President Donald Trump’s administration.

At least he's saying not to have hate in your heart, and beat him at the ballot box. His understanding of Trump is flawed, but he's right, people doing this will create more violence and division. And he's from CNN, maybe some of them understand the anger and vitriol the network has created.

‘They Don’t Scream’: Hundreds Of Dead Fish Turn Up In River

MARK TANOS CONTRIBUTOR September 16, 20243:00 PM ET

Biologists at California State University Bakersfield are sounding the alarm after the city’s decision to reduce water flows in the Kern River allegedly led to the death of over 3,000 fish, 23ABC reported. (CA pours the water into the ocean, that’s why all the N. CA farms are dying)

The city cut back water flow Sept. 3 to conduct maintenance on a weir near the Stockdale Highway bridge, but the move has sparked concerns about its environmental impact, according to 23ABC. Antje Lauer, a biology professor at CSUB, walked the now-dry riverbed and described the devastation.

“Fish don’t cry. They don’t scream, but if you see them in shallow waters, gasping for air, it’s heartbreaking,”she said. Lauer, along with fellow professor Rae McNeish and their students, documented the mass fish deaths since late August, presenting their findings at a recent city council meeting.

“3,000 fish dead in the river is a failure on our part, and I think we can do better,” said Councilman Eric Arias, acknowledging the environmental toll, the outlet reported. City Manager Christian Clegg explained that Bakersfield had already depleted its water reserves by August and had no additional water to run through the river. The city is bound by contracts with local agricultural districts, complicating efforts to maintain water levels.

Lauer, however, believes alternative measures could have been taken to protect the fish. “If there would have been maybe a diversion, little canal or fish ladder for them, some of them may have been able to escape,” she suggested, according to the outlet.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating the incident.

“California Department ofFish and Wildlife takes all instances of fish mortality seriously(but never humans) and is investigating what has occurred on the Kern River, we cannot comment further during the pending investigation,” a spokesperson said.

Environmentalists like Lauer hope for improved water management moving forward to protect both wildlife and agricultural interests.

This is just a drop in the bucket of the mismanagement of water in CA, it effects all life, including humans, that they think are not as important as fish, etc. CA has destroyed farmlands, crops etc. CA has a long history of abuse of all forests, animals, cities, humans, industry, farms etc. Get rid of Newsom and the Lawyers, and get the water flowing again.

CNN’s Harry Enten Warns Harris Currently In Polling ‘Danger Zone’

JASON COHEN CONTRIBUTOR September 16, 202410:43 AM ET

OMG, KEK, seriously look at the CNN Contributor to the left of Enten, when he starts out! Sadsack.

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten warned on Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris’ current national lead over former President Donald Trump is too slim to signal a likely victory in the November election due to the electoral college.

Harris’ national lead over Trump grew by just a single point following their debate last week, despite a majority of viewers believing she won, according to ABC News/Ipsos data released on Sunday. Enten, on “CNN News Central,” noted Harris’ 2.5-point lead in his polling aggregate gives her roughly a 50% chance of winning.

WATCH:

“Okay, so basically, you note that 2.5-point lead nationally here, right? Okay, Harris’ chances if she wins the popular vote by two to three points, the chance she wins the electoral college is only 53%. The bottom line is … you have to get all the way north to about three to four points for Harris to have a clear, clear, clear chance,” Enten told host John Berman. “The majority, the clear majority chance of winning the electoral college. If she only wins by less than two, look at that, only a 23% chance of winning … Harris is right now in that danger zone where, basically, about half the time, given that popular vote margin nationally, she would win.”

“And so here’s the situation: chance Harris wins the popular vote at this point is about 70%, but the chance she wins the electoral college is only about 50%. So the bottom line is, at this hour, John, there‘s about a 20% chance that Kamala Harris wins the popular vote but actually loses in the electoral college,” he added. “So we could be heading towards one of these splits that we saw in 2016 and in 2000, whereby one candidate, Kamala Harris, wins in the popular vote but loses in the electoral college.”

Moreover, Harris only has a 1.7% lead over Trump nationally and just a 0.2% advantage in the top seven battleground states, according to RealClearPolitics averages of recent polls.

“Basically, at this hour, we’re right in that sort of weird middle zone where we honestly don’t know what‘s going to happen based upon the popular vote,” Enten said. “And that is why those national polls that show Kamala Harris ahead, at this point, really don’t matter that much.”

Enten noted recently that the presidential race is so “tight” that Trump will secure an electoral college victory if he “outperforms his current polls by just a single point.”

Charlamagne Teams Up With Caller To Roast Harris For Being Too 'On-Script' During Interview1:02 minutes

Charlamagne Teams Up With Caller To Roast Harris For Being Too ‘On-Script’ During First Solo TV Interview

JASON COHEN CONTRIBUTOR September 16, 2024 2:21 PM ET

A caller and radio host Charlamagne Tha God on Monday both ridiculed Vice President Kamala Harris’ overly scripted answer during a Friday interview with 6ABC Philadelphia’s Action News.

Anchor Brian Taff questioned Harris on her “specific” strategies to improve affordability for Americans, but the vice president began her answer by rambling about her middle-class upbringing instead of answering the query. The caller, Dave, and Charlamagne, on “The Breakfast Club,” criticized Harris for delivering what seemed to be pre-prepared lines rather than just answering Taff’s question.

LISTEN:

“I was calling about that interview … Kamala bombed over the weekend .. in Philly … 11 minutes long, and she came out with the same spiel,” Dave said. “‘Whatchu gon’ do for the economy?’ ‘Um, well, I was raised in a middle-class’ — fam, we didn’t ask you that.”

“I agree with you wholeheartedly; I’m not gon’ say it was a bomb … two things that’s a problem here. She hasn’t done a lot of interviews, so every interview she do is gon’ be super scrutinized,” Charlamagne said. “And number two, there’s no need for you to be that on-script in a conversation … The guy said, ‘Name two things for me that y’all are going to do for the economy’ or something like that. That was not the time to go into the script about being raised in the middle class. Just tell the two things.”

Taff’s first asked Harris to name “one or two specific things” she plans to do to bring down costs for Americans.

“I’ll start with this. I grew up a middle-class kid. My mother raised my sister and me. She worked very hard, she was able to finally save up enough money to buy our first house when I was a teenager,” she said. “I grew up in a community of hardworking people, you know, construction workers and nurses and teachers.”

“I tried to explain to some people who may not have had the same experience, you know, a lot of people will relate to this. You know, I grew up in a neighborhood of folks who were very proud of their lawn, you know,” Harris added. “And I was raised to believe and to know that all people deserve dignity. And that we as Americans have a beautiful character.”

The vice president eventually noted some economic policies she plans to implement, including tax credits for housing developers, down payment assistance for home buyers and a tax deduction for small businesses start-ups.

Harris also avoided directly addressing her numerous policy changes when ABC News anchor Linsey Davis provided her the opportunity to do so during her recent debate against former President Donald Trump. The vice president discussed her “middle class” background while explaining how her “values have not changed” despite her policy flip-flops.

Harris has often stuck to scripted remarks since launching her campaign on July 21, giving just two sit-down interviews and participating in one presidential debate. The vice president has not held an official press conference during her campaign, according to Fox News.

Democratic strategist James Carville during a Thursday podcast appeared to recommend Harris to take a blend of “planted” and unrehearsed questions during public speaking events to seem more impressive, without making it “evident” she was aware of some of the queries. (Carville, it won’t help, she has been trying to learn how to speak since a kid, she never picked it up)

Sunny Hostin Says The Number Of People Supporting Violence Against Trump Is ‘Despicable’

(I love it when the hypocrites that condemn, insult and call for violence against Trump, want to make believe they have Christian Principles. “The View” has been calling for all kinds of horrid thins to happen to Trump for years.)

NICOLE SILVERIO MEDIA REPORTER September 16, 20241:26 PM ET

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin on Monday condemned the number of people who reportedly support violent acts against Republican nominee Donald Trump following a second assassination attempt targeting the former president.

The suspect, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, was taken into custody on Sunday after he allegedly pointed an AK-47-style weapon at Trump while he was golfing at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Hostin cited a June 24 poll led by University of Chicago political scientist Robert Pape, which found that 10% of American adults believe the “use of force is justified” to prevent Trump from getting reelected.

“I was just reading this morning, a recent University of Chicago poll examines support for political violence in the United States. And there ismore support for violence today against Trump and others,” Hostin said. “Against Trump, 10% of American adults think it’s okay, and 26 million adults who support violence to prevent Trump from regaining the presidency, more than 30,000 of those own guns and almost 80% have access to internetorganizational tools. That’s despicable, what do we do?”

Pape wrote in a July 14 op-ed for the Boston Globe that he was “immediately concerned” with his findings, pointing out that the10% of people supporting violence against Trump are “politically active” and have the “capacity for violence.” He also emphasized how the survey found that 7% of American adults are willing to engage in political violence in order to restore Trump to the White House.

Co-host Sara Haines blamed the normalizing of “political rhetoric” and “hate speech” for the rise in political violence across the U.S. Co-host Ana Navarro said that the panel condemned political violence which she said has become a major part of American culture. (Ana Navarro, are you fucking kidding me, these women are the worst, and Navarro would kill him herself if she could.)

Hostin pointed fingers at Americans’ alleged “fascination with guns” for these violent attempts against Trump and other political figures.

During the first assassination attempt against Trump, a bullet hit the former president in the upper portion of his right ear at a July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired 8 rounds into the crowd. The incident led to an investigation into the Secret Service’s handling of the situation, ultimately leading to former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s resignation on July 23.

(Anon’s maybe we should collect statements, videos, clips, etc. from their twitter feeds and send the “nice women” samples of what they say, how much hate they spew, and ask them did they really say those things. They are denying they themselves, incite violence.)
