A Target on His Back â Trump as the New John Wick

So now we have the murmurings of a third possible assassination attempt on the life of former President Trump. Multiple attendees seated onstage at Trumpâs Tucson rally experienced severe eye pain afterward, requiring emergency room treatment. The initial indication supports the premise that there was possibly some kind of agent released in the air that caused the malaise. Granted, information is sparse at this point, but would anyone be surprised if it were true? You can almost feel it, the rising excitement in the lunatic fringe. The Secret Service and the FBI have shown themselves to be ineffective in protecting the former President â whether through DEI-fomented incompetence or by Machiavellian design. Pure luck or divine intervention prevented Trumpâs assassination in Pennsylvania when he providentially turned his head, so the bullet only struck his ear; stupidity prevented it in Florida when the assassin allowed the barrel of his rifle to be spotted by a member of Trumpâs security detail. The repeated failures of the security agencies have sent a message to the crazies on the Left: go ahead and take your best shot.
You can practically hear the hundreds of lefty lunatics scrambling to gather guns, knives, bombs, poisons, deadly gas, and anything else they can think of to use in their efforts to âget Trump.â Trump is now like John Wick in the movie John Wick 2. For the uninitiated, John Wick was a master assassin who violated the âcode of ethicsâ of his brotherhood. As punishment, the leaders of the brotherhood put out a contract on him and hundreds of professional assassins raced to be the first one to kill John Wick and collect millions in bounty.
Donald Trump âviolatedâ the rules of the brotherhood of political elites. They have employed every method they could think of to neutralize him through media lies and judicial lawfare. None of those tactics have worked. In fact, theyâve boomeranged and increased Trumpâs popularity and appeal. After those failures, itâs not surprising that the Left would start sending covert messages to their fringe members that itâs time to employ drastic means. Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, Hillary Clinton, and other Dems have called Trump the vilest names, claiming repeatedly that heâs an âexistential threat to democracy,â that heâs a âdictatorâ who will âdestroy the Constitution,â that he will cause a âbloodbathâ if heâs elected. The legacy media have repeated these allegations ad nauseam. How many times have we heard Rachel Maddow say that the Dems must use âextreme measuresâ to stop Donald Trump? These declarations could certainly be viewed as dog whistles to the crazies on the Left that itâs time to employ violence. (The Dems love to say that Trump is always issuing âdog whistlesâ calling for violence. More projection on their part for what they are doing.)
The Leftâs fringe lunatics arenât going to be paid millions for assassinating Donald Trump not that we know of, at any rate but they will gain the fame and adulation of the Left (as they believe in their warped fantasies) by being the âheroâ that âsaves democracyâ.
Most incredibly, instead of calling for a moratorium on their incendiary verbiage, mind-numbed Democrat minions like Lester Holt of NBC News blamed Trump. Trumpâs own rhetoric, he implied, inspired the assassination attempts on his life. Talk about shaming the victim. Tellingly, there have been no assassination attempts on the Democrat presidential nominee â and thankfully so. But if Trumpâs rhetoric was so violent, why havenât there been similar assassination attempts from the fringe right on Kamala Harris or Tim Walz?
This is all deadly serious. Donald Trump has been attacked twice in two months and possibly a third time last week in Tucson. He has been fortunate so far, no thanks to the Secret Service. Yes, the Secret Service agent in Florida spotted the rifle barrel protruding from the bushes but the man wielding that weapon had been in hiding there for twelve hours. Yet another whistleblower has come forward to disclose that security checks for the golf course were not carried out according to protocol. The perimeter of that course should have been thoroughly inspected before Trump even started his round. If the shooter was there a full twelve hours before the game, then obviously that didnât happen.
Already the naysayers are downplaying the event. âThe only gunshots were from the Secret Service.â âThe shooter was 300 to 500 yards away.â Thank God the only shots were from the Secret Service. That doesnât lessen the danger this shooter presented; his rifle was poised and ready. And yes, the shooter was 300 to 500 yards away. He was stationed at the 6th hole; Trump was on the 5th. Eventually, Trump would have walked right up into point-blank range.
But the race is on and the crazies on the Left are scrambling to answer the call; more attempts on the former Presidentâs life are highly likely, especially as election day draws nearer. The Dems are desperate. Theyâre ramping up their rhetoric and pulling no punches. They are inspiring hate and desperation in their minions â and we can expect that desperate haters will do desperately hateful things to âsave democracyâ.

A Dramatic Tax Pounding Come 2026

Itâs a matter of debate as to whether or not the future of democracy is at stake in this yearâs presidential election. But the future of your tax bill certainly is. And the differences for successful business owners could be dramatic depending on who wins.
Although Democrat nominee and current vice president Kamala Harris has offered few new tax policy specifics, she did roll out a grab bag of expensive tax credits, including $25,000 grants for first-time homebuyers. In addition, The Wall Street Journal reports that sheâs expected to hew closely to Joe Bidenâs tax philosophy. And she did re-emphasize that she will stick to President Bidenâs âno tax increases for earners under $400,000â pledge.
With billions of dollars in proposed new tax credits and no new taxes for those below a $400,000 income threshold, a Democrat administration will by definition be coming after higher-income taxpayers full force.
There have been enough public statements and published policy proposals from both sides to be able to compare a successful business ownerâs likely tax bill under a Harris presidency compared to a second Trump presidency. The differences are stark.
Trump Tax Legacy: Cuts and Jobs Act incentives
The defining tax policy of Donald Trumpâs presidency was the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which combined significant personal and corporate tax cuts with features that encouraged more aggressive business investment.
The TCJA lowered most individual tax rates; adjusted tax bracket thresholds upward; adjusted various personal tax credits; and limited state and local tax deductions, mortgage interest deductions, and charitable giving deductions.
On the business front, the TCJA lowered corporate tax rates dramatically, taking the U.S. from one of the highest corporate tax rates in the industrialized world to about the average rate of the nations belonging to the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD). It also allowed accelerated depreciation for investment in many kinds of business equipment while closing several corporate tax deductions and loopholes.
For successful small business owners, a key feature of the TCJA was its qualified business income deduction for up to 20% of the income of pass-through entities like S-corporations, sole proprietorships, and others.
But a critical feature of the TCJA was that key provisions of it would sunset â expire â in 2025. Why would Congress make such a critical thing as our fundamental tax policy, in effect, temporary? Essentially, because it couldnât have passed any other way, and the sunset provisions allowed the bill to overcome objections and legislative blocking mechanisms.
Donald Trump has said (no surprise) that his administration will renew and make permanent all of the TCJAâs provisions.
The Biden/Harris administration (also no surprise) has said theyâll let most of the TCJAâs provisions expire, other than the expanded Child Tax Credit and a few other individual tax provisions. The administrationâs determination to scrap most of the TCJA forms the foundation for the dramatic divergence in tax outcomes for business owners under Democrats versus Republicans starting next year.
Harris reiterated last week that no one who makes under $400,000 would face a tax increase â though the devil is in the details. Since every income group saw a reduction in its tax rate in 2017, allowing the provisions to expire would seem to logically impose a tax rate increase for everyone.
In addition, the 2021 Inflation Reduction Act contained a massive increase in funding for IRS auditors, and the IRSâs own data show that 63% of 2023 IRS audits targeted taxpayers with incomes under $200,000. So the idea that thereâs some kind of legal fence around sub-$400,000 earners is illusory.
The Biden/Harris administration has also proposed hiking corporate tax rates by 33%, raising rates on high earners, and setting a minimum tax rate for them regardless of other tax considerations.
Kamala Harris further tax background
Historically, Kamala Harris has staked out very progressive taxation policies with aggressive marginal rates on high income earners and corporations. As a presidential candidate in 2020, she advocated for the full repeal of the TCJA â not simply waiting for it to sunset.
Highlights of her previously stated plans:
Raising corporate taxes 66% to a marginal rate of 35%
Pushing the top income tax rate to 39.6%.
Taxing capital gains and dividends at ordinary income tax rates.
She would also give huge tax credits to middle- and low-income families that are estimated to cost the federal government more than $2 trillion over the next decade.
Finally, she has in the past proposed âMedicare for All,â one of the most costly policies ever proposed at roughly $3 trillion annually. Harris suggested a surtax of 4% on all incomes above $100,000 to pay for it.
The effects on a successful small business taxpayer
To look at the effect of whoâs in the White House for the next four years, letâs examine what a sample successful small businesspersonâs tax return might look for the exact same amounts of income this year versus in 2026, when the bulk of the 2017 Trump tax cuts expire, under both Trumpâs and Harrisâs stated or affirmed tax plans.
This analysis focuses on a successful small businessperson who is reporting combined income from all sources of just under $750,000. The numbers in the example are drawn from an actual 2023 return and anonymized. We can assume the same nominal income from all categories for 2026.
IRS data suggest that about 1% of all taxpayers reported more than $500,000 in income, so with roughly 167 million taxpayers, there would be roughly 1.67 million taxpayers whose returns might look like this â or worse.
Conclusions
What the sample data and calculations suggest is that the hammer will come down hard on high-income taxpayers if Kamala Harris is elected president and Congress doesnât have enough votes to override her likely vetoes of any legislation that perpetuated the 2017 Trump tax cut.
A taxpayer making $750,000 with relatively straightforward deductions and business investments could see his tax bill leap from about $150,000 under a Trump administrationâs stated policies to $217,000 under a Harris administrationâs proposed and inferred policies.
Thatâs an increase of almost 45% in total tax dollars paid.
That painful outcome for the successful taxpayer under Harris would largely be a result of two factors: a reversion to pre-2017 top marginal tax rates and the removal of the Qualified Business Income Deduction.
And all that is before considering that the Biden/Harris administration let a budget footnote slip that indicated that it would seek a gigantic doubling of the capital gains tax.
Our national tax policy and how it affects successful economic contributors will swing wildly on the hinge of this Novemberâs election. High earners will need to prepare for the possibility that the tax door may hit them square in the wallet.
