Israeli strikes on Lebanon – LIVE UPDATES

The Israeli military carried out a series of airstrikes on Lebanon on Monday, reportedly killing nearly 500 people. The strikes, which have been described as the deadliest since the 2006 Israeli-Hezbollah war, come amid the Jewish State’s expanding campaign against the Lebanese militant group.

Lebanese authorities have reported that over 1,600 people have been injured. The country’s Health Minister Firass Abiad has claimed that the strikes have hit hospitals, medical centers and ambulances.

The government has ordered schools and universities across the country to begin preparing shelters as thousands of people flee from the southern regions of Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military claimed to have struck over 1,300 targets, describing them as Hezbollah weapons sites.

The Israeli military stated it had struck “approximately 1,600 Hezbollah terrorist targets” over the past day in multiple series of strikes in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.

”Over the past few hours, directed by IDF intelligence, the IAF struck hundreds of Hezbollah targets, including launchers, command posts, and terrorist infrastructure in numerous areas of southern Lebanon,” the IDF said in a statement, sharing a video of some of the strikes.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has called for an emergency United Nations Security Council session to discuss Israel’s major cross-border attack on Lebanon.

“I have requested that an emergency meeting of the Security Council be held on Lebanon this week,” Barrot told the UN General Assembly on Monday, urging all sides to “avoid a regional conflagration that would be devastating for everyone.”

Catherine Russell, the executive director of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has expressed “alarm” over the “ongoing surge of attacks in Lebanon and Israel,” urging all parties to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law.

According to the latest tally from Lebanon's health ministry, Israeli strikes have killed at least 492 people – including 35 children and 58 women – and wounded 1,645 individuals.

”Countless more children are in danger, with thousands of families displaced from their homes and ongoing attacks on civilian infrastructure,” Russell said in a statement.

”Alarming levels of psychological distress have been reported among children in both countries, stemming not only from their sudden displacement but also from the barrage of shelling and air raids that have become their daily reality for nearly a year,” she added.

Israel has named its military operation against Hezbollah “Northern Arrows,” the IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant-General Herzi Halevi, announced on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Health Ministry updated the death toll from IDF strikes to 492, with at least 1,645 wounded in the bombings of Beirut and southern Lebanon.

Egypt has called on “international powers and the UN Security Council to intervene immediately” to stop the “dangerous Israeli escalation in Lebanon” that “threatens to drag the region into a comprehensive regional war,” according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry in Cairo.

Egypt has expressed solidarity with Lebanon and denounced “any violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territory,” while continuing to work towards a ceasefire in Gaza, the ministry added.

Man in blonde wig, makeup and pearls is accused of trying to abduct 11 year-old child from outside his house

A man wearing a blonde wig, makeup and pearls was arrested on Sunday for attempting to kidnap an 11-year-old boy from outside his home in Alliance, Ohio, police said.

Joshua Freyermuth, 39, who also goes by the name Vicky, told the child 'I need to talk to you' in an attempt to lure the 11-year-old off of his property and away from his dog.

When the child refused, Freyermuth attempted to grab him on South Webb Avenue.

He was arrested at a friend's house and taken to jail, with a court date set for Monday, police said.

An Apprentice contestant's response to Donald Trump's ultra-flattering remarks about Diddy revealed yet another ignored clue about the rapper's wrongdoings.

Pop singer Aubrey O'Day, 40, appeared on The Apprentice in 2012 - four years after working under Sean 'Diddy' Combs as a member of music group Danity Kane.

Donald Trump recently joined the growing list of celebrities tied up in the Diddy scandal after an unflattering clip from an episode of The Apprentice resurfaced.

In the clip, O'Day became visibly uncomfortable after Trump said: 'I love Diddy. You know, he's a good friend of mine, he's a good guy. Is he a good guy?'

'I don't want to answer that question,' O'Day immediately responded.

The United States government earlier this year officially accused Russia of interfering with the US elections. Earlier this year on October 7th, the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a joint statement that began:

“The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations. The recent disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts.”

Yesterday the Obama administration announced that they would expel 35 Russian diplomats and close two Russian facilities in the United States, among other measures, as punishment for interfering with the US 2016 election.

In addition, yesterday the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) released a Joint Analysis Report, or JAR, compiled by the DHS and FBI, which they say attributes the election security compromises to Russian intelligence operatives that they have codenamed ‘GRIZZLY STEPPE‘.

The report that DHS and DNI released includes in its first paragraph: “This document provides technical details regarding the tools and infrastructure used by the Russian civilian and military intelligence Services (RIS) to compromise and exploit networks and endpoints associated with the U.S. election, as well as a range of U.S. Government, political, and private sector entities. The report contains specific indicators of compromise, including IP addresses and a PHP malware sample.”
