Paul Pelosi Sold Over $500K of Visa Stock Ahead of DOJ Lawsuit

https://www.newsmax.com/politics/paul-pelosi-sale-visa/2024/09/24/id/1181608/

The husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., sold more than $500,000 worth of Visa stock less than three months before the Department of Justice hit the credit card giant with an antitrust lawsuit, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

On July 3, Paul Pelosi sold 2,000 shares of Visa worth between $500,000 and $1 million, the Post reported, citing a congressional filing that was posted by tech entrepreneur Christopher Josephs, who runs the "Nancy Pelosi Stock Tracker" on the social media platform X.

On July 3, there was no public inkling that the Justice Department would file the lawsuit against Visa. The implication, however, is that Rep. Pelosi would be aware of such investigations behind the scenes, according to the Post.

"Speaker Pelosi does not own any stocks, and she has no prior knowledge or subsequent involvement in any transactions," the congresswoman's spokesperson told the Post.

"At various critical inflection points in history, members of our government have engaged in trading at a time which their conflicts are called into question," former enforcement attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission Ron Geffner told the Post.

The DOJ is accusing Visa of suppressing competition by threatening merchants with high fees and paying off potential rivals.

"Visa's unlawful conduct affects not just the price of one thing, but the price of nearly everything," Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement, noting merchants and banks pass payment network costs to consumers.

Rep. Pelosi has a net worth in the nine figures thanks to her and her husband's stock portfolio, the Post reported.

Further, Rep. Pelosi has pushed back on bipartisan-proposed bans to prevent lawmakers and their spouses from trading stock, given the potential for conflict of interest, according to the Post.

Sen. Ernst to Newsmax: Biden Economy 'Forced' John Deere to Mexico

https://www.newsmax.com/newsmax-tv/joni-ernst-john-deere-iowa/2024/09/24/id/1181544/

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, told Newsmax on Tuesday that the economic policies of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have "forced" companies such as John Deere to move their manufacturing out of the country.

In July, John Deere announced it would be cutting 600 jobs from plants in Iowa and Illinois and moving those manufacturing positions to Mexico "in response to market conditions."

Former President Donald Trump said during a campaign stop earlier this week he will impose a 200% tariff on the company if they go through with their plans.

Ernst said her "heart just goes out" to the effected employees and communities.

"This is the result of a disastrous economy under Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden," she said. "When we have manufacturers that feel they need to move our jobs to other countries because the economy is bad it hurts everyone."

The senator from Iowa cautioned that the loss of the jobs in Iowa and Illinois will reverberate across the heartland.

"The workers they put the dollars right back into their home communities. I would love to see John Deere keeping these jobs in Iowa. They have invested so much in the infrastructure in Iowa and Illinois and yet this economy is forcing them to look elsewhere for cheap labor and because they can't keep up with Biden and Harris regulations," Ernst said during an appearance on "Wake Up America."

Ernst noted the country will need "a change in administration" to keep jobs in the United States.

"We need to return to a pro-growth economy that President Trump had and get back to a regulatory environment that encourages growth in business and industry and doesn't punish those that are creating jobs," she said.

Ernst concluded by saying Biden and Harris are "literally destroying our country and you're seeing the result in my home community in Iowa. It's devastating to us."

Judge Cannon Gets Case of Alleged Would-Be Trump Assassin

https://www.newsmax.com/politics/judge-aileen-cannon-assigned/2024/09/24/id/1181626/

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who oversaw and threw out special counsel Jack Smith's classified documents case against former President Donald Trump, was randomly assigned to preside over the case of his alleged would-be assassin, court documents showed.

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, who stands accused of attempting to assassinate Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sept. 15, now faces a five-count indictment after a grand jury returned more serious charges on Tuesday.

Routh is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.

Originally charged on two gun counts, Routh is now also charged with attempted assassination of a political candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and a third gun charge. The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison if he's convicted.

Cannon was selected from a random draw of 10 federal judges, Politico reported.

Cannon dismissed the classified documents case in July, ruling that Smith was illegally appointed special counsel by the Justice Department. That ruling is being appealed.

Individual states have to impose term limits.

They control their own reps. That's why one state can not impose a limit upon another state.

The constitution sets the terms for a state rep's single term, but can not set how many terms they are able to server.

So if a state decided their rep can only server 2 terms, well that rep can only be voted in twice by the people of the state being represented.

For congress to set that term it would violate the 10th amendment, 'State's Rights'.

Trump: 'Big Threats' From Iran; Attacker Would Face 'Death Wish'

https://www.newsmax.com/world/globaltalk/donald-trump-iran-assassination/2024/09/24/id/1181621/

Former President Donald Trump warned in an overnight social media post, as his campaign was reporting he had been briefed by intelligence sources about assassination threats from Iran, that it would be a "Death Wish" for an attacker to come after a former president.

"Big threats on my life by Iran," Trump posed on Truth Social early Wednesday. "The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn't work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone."

Trump also thanked Congress for its unanimous approval of more money for the Secret Service after assassination attempts against him during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July and at Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach earlier this month.

"I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before," Trump said. "Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service – Zero 'NO' Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something."

The Senate on Tuesday passed a bill that gives major presidential candidates like Trump and his Democrat rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, the same level of protection as a sitting president.

The Trump campaign said Tuesday night the former president was briefed earlier in the day by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence concerning "real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to sow chaos in the United States."

"Intelligence officials have identified that these continued and coordinated attacks have heightened in the past few months, and law enforcement officials across all agencies are working to ensure President Trump is protected and the election is free from interference," Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung added in a statement.

The threats come, Cheung said, because the "terror regime in Iran loves the weakness of Kamala Harris and is terrified of the strength and resolve of President Trump" who will "let nothing stop him or get in his way to fight for the American people and to Make America Great Again."

NBC News reported a spokesperson for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence acknowledged Tuesday night that there had been a briefing, but would not address the specifics.

Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations in New York did not respond to NBC's request for a comment, and the Harris campaign did not have an immediate comment.

Earlier this year, the Secret Service increased its security around Trump after the Biden administration got information about an alleged plot against Trump from Iran.

The news about the increase in security came after the July 13 attempt on Trump in Butler, but officials said at that time that there was no sign that the Iranian plot and the rally shooting were connected.

Secret Service agents shot and killed a local resident, Thomas Matthew Crooks after he opened fire, with a bullet grazing Trump's ear and other shots killing a rallygoer and seriously injuring two more.

On Sept. 15, police captured a suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, who authorities said fled after agents opened fire on him when they saw the barrel of his gun peeking out from a fence near where Trump was golfing. Tuesday, Routh was charged with the attempted assassination of a presidential candidate, adding to other charges that had been filed against him.

The Trump campaign has also accused Iran of a hacking attempt in June, with U.S. agencies later confirming the Middle Eastern country was behind attempts to compromise both presidential campaigns.

Intelligence agencies have also said that Iranian hackers accessed Trump campaign emails, sending documents to Biden campaign associates.

Iran has denied those accusations, calling them "entirely baseless, lacking any credibility and legitimacy," according to the Fars News Agency.

Meanwhile, a member of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps was charged in 2022 by the United States in a plot to kill Trump's former national security adviser John Bolton, the BBC reported.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Shahram Poursafi had tried to pay $300,000 to people in the United States to murder Bolton in revenge for the death strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian military commander.

Notice how it varies between jurisdictions.

In most common law jurisdictions, the attorney general (pl.: attorneys general)[1] or attorney-general (AG or Atty.-Gen[2]) is the main legal advisor to the government. In some jurisdictions, attorneys general also have executive responsibility for law enforcement, prosecutions or even responsibility for legal affairs generally. In practice, the extent to which the attorney general personally provides legal advice to the government varies between jurisdictions, and even between individual office-holders within the same jurisdiction, often depending on the level and nature of the office-holder's prior legal experience.
