IDF Prepares Ground Invasion Of Lebanon, Calls Up Reserve Brigades

After Hezbollah's launch of an Iran-made ballistic missile on Tel Aviv, a first of the war which we detailed earlier, Israel is preparing to activate two reserve brigades for ongoing operations on its 'northern front' with Lebanon.

A fresh statement by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said boosting forces with reserve manpower will "enable the continuation of the fighting efforts against Hezbollah, the protection of Israeli citizens and creating conditions for the return of the residents of the north safely back home."

This comes simultaneous to talk of a ground offensive in southern Lebanon, which would mark a first since the 2006 war, which proved somewhat devastating for both sides. The IDF chief has said "we are preparing for a ground maneuver" in Lebanon ahead of an important security cabinet meeting under PM Netanyahu.

Hezbollah Fires First Ballistic Missile On Tel Aviv, Targets Mossad Headquarters

Yesterday marked a first where Hezbollah targeted an Israeli naval base south of Haifa with a missile salvo. And today marks another new major first: Israel says it has intercepted a Hezbollah ballistic missile aimed at Tel Aviv. It marks a first of the war and the deepest Hezbollah has ever tried to send a projectile into Israel.

"The Israeli military said it intercepted the surface-to-surface missile, which set off air-raid sirens in Tel Aviv and across central Israel," Associated Press reports. "There were no reports of casualties or damage." In retaliation Israel's military (IDF) said it struck a site in south Lebanon from where the missile was launched.

Hezbollah later said it was targeting the command headquarters of Israel’s Mossad spy agency. Given the intercept, the effort didn't appear to come close, but it strongly suggests there could be more waves of strikes targeting Tel Aviv to come. The projectile was reportedly intercepted by Israel's David's Sling system, a medium-range defense system.

Leaked documents and emails obtained by The Grayzone reveal a seemingly covert effort by American regime change operatives to impose radical leadership on the remnants of Iran’s protest movement against the mandatory hijab, in order to topple the government of Iran.

The initiative was spearheaded by Carl Gershman, the longtime director of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a US government-funded non-profit which advances regime change operations across the globe. Originally conceived by the Reagan administration’s CIA, the NED has meddled in elections and sponsored coup leaders from Nicaragua to Venezuela to Hong Kong, and beyond.

The leaks reveal how Gershman privately plotted to channel US State Department resources into the construction of an “Iran Freedom Coalition” composed of pro-Western Iranian activists and US neoconservative operatives who clamor for an American military assault on Iran.

While aiming to “mobilize international support” for the Women, Life, Freedom Movement, “and to do what is possible to aid [their] struggle,” the Freedom Coalition represents a clear attempt to impose an exiled leadership over the grassroots Iranian opposition which is directed and sponsored by the most belligerent elements in Washington.

Attempts by The Grayzone to reach several members of the Coalition for comment were unsuccessful. We were therefore unable to determine if those listed by Gershman had explicitly committed to participating, or had been named by the NED veteran as prospective leaders.

Regardless of the listed members’ level of participation, the composition of Gershman’s proposed Iran Freedom Coalition demonstrates how Iran’s self-proclaimed pro-democracy movement has become a plaything for the Bomb Iran lobby. Among those handpicked by Gershman to lead the initiative was William Kristol, the neocon impresario who has led a decades-long lobbying campaign for a US military invasion of Iran. Also selected was Joshua Muravchik, a flamboyant supporter of Israel’s Likud Party who insists that “war with Iran is probably our best option”

The Freedom Coalition’s Iranian members consist heavily of US government-sponsored cultural figures and staffers at interventionist Western think tanks like the Tony Blair Institute. While these figures are quoted in Western media as the leaders of Iran’s “freedom” struggle, their involvement in US government-backed campaigns like the one conceived by Gershman reveals them as little more than Persian front people for Washington warmongers.

Protests erupted in Iranian cities in September 2022 after the death of a young Iranian woman named Mahsa Amini, who was briefly taken into police custody in Tehran after violating moral codes mandating that women wear a hijab. The movement attracted the zealous support of Western governments, celebrities and feminist NGOs, which cheered it on even after it fizzled out in the streets.

Last week, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, the rapper and music producer, was arrested and charged with sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion; racketeering conspiracy; and transportation to engage in prostitution.

As many have pointed out since his homes were raided back in March, the allegations against Combs echo the disturbing pattern of Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal activities. The individuals connected to Combs and Epstein are influential figures in government, media, and entertainment. They shape our culture, and their moral corruption matters because it seeps into the very fabric of our society.

Combs allegedly orchestrated what he called “freak offs” — drug-fueled orgies where he coerced participants through threats of violence and reportedly filmed these encounters to blackmail his victims into silence. The allegations — trafficking, abuse, coercion, drugging, and non-consensual filming — are eerily similar to the Epstein case.

Moreover, like Epstein, It took years of abuse and a mountain of accusations before law enforcement finally stepped in. Combs, who is now on “suicide watch,” is being charged in the notoriously corrupt Southern District of New York, the same jurisdiction that prosecuted Epstein’s case.

Unlike Epstein, Combs is not being charged with child sexual abuse, although he has been accused of raping a minor. However, like with Epstein, Combs is the only person who has been charged so far. But other than his staff who helped facilitate the “freak offs,” it’s highly unlikely Combs is the sole prominent figure involved.

What other celebrities and music executives were in on it? Certainly many of them must have known what was happening. Beyonce, Jay Z, Jennifer Lopez (Combs’ ex-girlfriend), Leonardo DiCaprio, LeBron James, and the Kardashians, among many others have all attended his parties. Some may have been victims, others complicit. Combs’ close friend Usher suspiciously deleted all his tweets after the indictment was unsealed (although he has since claimed he was “hacked.”) Why?

Connections between these elites run deep. Not just in entertainment but politics as well. Combs’ former bodyguard Gene Deal reportedly said that Combs kept tapes of politicians taking part in his infamous “freak off” sessions. Deal also claimed Combs’ arrest is tied to the alleged corruption scandal currently gripping New York City politics. Over the last few weeks, a slew of New York City officials, including the NYC police department commissioner and the chief legal counsel to the city, have resigned in the midst of a secretive federal investigation.

Combs certainly had cozy relationships with numerous politicians, such as Barack Obama. Chrissy Teigen’s resurfaced interview, where she admits to public sex with her husband, John Legend, at “the Obama thing,” has only added to the suspicions about these celebrity-political networks.

For decades, sex trafficking among our cultural and political elite has been dismissed as a “conspiracy theory,” and victims have been gaslit, ridiculed, and silenced for speaking out. Those who dares discuss it are smeared as chronically online paranoid freaks. Yet so many of these allegations end up being true.

To Keep Weapons Flowing, Blinken Buried Two Reports Finding Israel Deliberately Blocked Aid to Gaza

Blinken told Congress, “We do not currently assess that the Israeli government is prohibiting or otherwise restricting” aid, even though the U.S. Agency for International Development and others had determined that Israel had broken the law.

The U.S. government’s two foremost authorities on humanitarian assistance concluded this spring that Israel had deliberately blocked deliveries of food and medicine into Gaza.

The U.S. Agency for International Development delivered its assessment to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the State Department’s refugees bureau made its stance known to top diplomats in late April. Their conclusion was explosive because U.S. law requires the government to cut off weapons shipments to countries that prevent the delivery of U.S.-backed humanitarian aid. Israel has been largely dependent on American bombs and other weapons in Gaza since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks.

But Blinken and the administration of President Joe Biden did not accept either finding. Days later, on May 10, Blinken delivered a carefully worded statement to Congress that said, “We do not currently assess that the Israeli government is prohibiting or otherwise restricting the transport or delivery of U.S. humanitarian assistance.”

Prior to his report, USAID had sent Blinken a detailed 17-page memo on Israel’s conduct. The memo described instances of Israeli interference with aid efforts, including killing aid workers, razing agricultural structures, bombing ambulances and hospitals, sitting on supply depots and routinely turning away trucks full of food and medicine.

Lifesaving food was stockpiled less than 30 miles across the border in an Israeli port, including enough flour to feed about 1.5 million Palestinians for five months, according to the memo. But in February the Israeli government had prohibited the transfer of flour, saying its recipient was the United Nations’ Palestinian branch that had been accused of having ties with Hamas.

Separately, the head of the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration had also determined that Israel was blocking humanitarian aid and that the Foreign Assistance Act should be triggered to freeze almost $830 million in taxpayer dollars earmarked for weapons and bombs to Israel, according to emails obtained by ProPublica.

The U.N. has declared a famine in parts of Gaza. The world’s leading independent panel of aid experts found that nearly half of the Palestinians in the enclave are struggling with hunger. Many go days without eating. Local authorities say dozens of children have starved to death — likely a significant undercount. Health care workers are battling a lack of immunizations compounded by a sanitation crisis. Last month, a little boy became Gaza’s first confirmed case of polio in 25 years.

The USAID officials wrote that because of Israel’s behavior, the U.S. should pause additional arms sales to the country. ProPublica obtained a copy of the agency’s April memo along with the list of evidence that the officials cited to back up their findings.

USAID, which is led by longtime diplomat Samantha Power, said the looming famine in Gaza was the result of Israel’s “arbitrary denial, restriction, and impediments of U.S. humanitarian assistance,” according to the memo. It also acknowledged Hamas had played a role in the humanitarian crisis. USAID, which receives overall policy guidance from the secretary of state, is an independent agency responsible for international development and disaster relief. The agency had for months tried and failed to deliver enough food and medicine to a starving and desperate Palestinian population.

It is, USAID concluded, “one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the world.”
