TENNESSEE: Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis has ordered anyone in downtown Newport to evacuate immediately, adding that Walters Dam, also known as Waterville Dam, has failed.
“THE WATERVILLE DAM HAS SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE,” Mathis posted to Facebook. “EVACUATION ALL OF DOWNTOWN NEWPORT IMMEDIATELY.”
According to the United States Geological Survey, both rivers normally sit below five feet. As of noon, the Pigeon River was sitting at 20.57 feet. As of 12:45 p.m., the French Broad River was sitting just under 17 feet.

North Carolina removed more than 700,000 ineligible voters from its list of registered voters just weeks before the 2024 election. The North Carolina State Board of Elections announced that it found 747,000 ineligible people on its voter rolls over the past 20 months. The findings come after the board faces a lawsuit from the Republican National Committee (RNC) over the state’s voter rolls. According to the complaint, the election board “allowed over 225,000 people to register to vote with registration forms that failed to collect certain required identification information before the registration forms were processed.”

When the air strike took place, Israel took care to note that they had no confirmation that Hassan Nasrallah got killed in the attack. Since then, though, silence has spoken volumes. If Nasrallah had survived, and especially if he hadn't been at their Dahiyeh underground complex, he surely would have gotten word out shortly after the attack. Lebanese media started off reporting that Nasrallah survived and that a statement would get issued shortly. That has changed, however:
