It takes days to get help in because roads are blocked by trees or gone. So even those that want to help can't often get in. best case for the places that aren't wiped off the map is to get grills fired up and empty out the fresh food cases in the stores, then move to the freezers. those stores cannot salvage the stuff at this point.
This is the lives of thousands of people just gone. No home, nothing to salvage, possibly no workplace or school. The surviving hotels will be taken up by linemen. first responders etc. Winter is coming.
