Not discounting the essential nature of Spruce Pine with respect to manufacturing ultra high purity quartz ware. However, in my experience it's not like you need a new crucible every time you grow a semiconductor crystal. Crucibles can be used many times only needing replacement if broken.
Sauce? For my day job I grow specialized types of semiconductor crystals. Not silicon but the process is the same.
Despite looking like glass, quartz ware is extremely tough and durable. The only time we lose a crucible is if we completely lose a seed or if the seed breaks dropping a crystal back into the crucible during cool down. The rare earth elements we use expand as they cool down. Think freezing water in a glass container. As long as we have a seed, we can grow the material out and save the crucible.
Our broken quartz ware is recycled, so that may be an option in the short term as well.
Personally, I think the world could use an extended break from our sparkleboxes.
