k, you may recall the story a few days back about a damaged Maltese registered ship called the MV Ruby https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c62g95721leo

being offshore in the English Channel laden with 20k tonnes of ammonium nitrate. She’s supposedly accompanied by a tug called the amber 2 as she’s damaged and no one will allow this ship - that departed Russia - to dock with such a hugely explosive cargo? It’s also conveniently now near to a ww2 wreck that is home to 1400 tonnes of unexploded ordinance. https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1954556/russia-ship-kent-margate-ramsgate-explosives

Something has niggled me about this story since it popped up. I recognize the ship - I’m fairly sure I’ve seen it IRL in a port but it wasn’t called the ruby. Also all news outlets all say it’s called ruby but it’s not the MV ruby which is currently en route to china - the photos show it’s called the Lady A*** - the name is indistinguishable on the photos but clearly shows RUBY in other pics (that look Photoshopped) in different ports.

I have had a bit of a dig on the image used to show the ship and have to say the name ruby looks like it’s been photoshopped on.

I did a Tin eye search on the image used in the press and it turned up 13 matches - all from the last couple of weeks. No earlier images that I can find.

So then I checked the MV ruby images on shipping apps and that ship is registered in Panama called the ruby enterprise?

Ruby enterprise reg in panama looks like it is a different ship - noticeable difference in superstructure and masts etc

So why is media failing to name this ship correctly? All articles make a point of linking it to Russia - is this a false flag in the offing? Is it going to block the feck out of the UK in some way? It’s basically supposed to be floating bomb? Could this be some threat to shut down shipping in the south of the UK? In parallel to the US port strike?
