This was a rare event that caused higher than usual rainfall totals.
There was a cutoff Upper Low spinning over (roughly) Kentucky Lake that captured Helene's remnants.
This caused some bad things to happen such as moar rainfall squeezed out of the combined systems as well as the windfield staying higher and longer than usual.
