Vital Beirut Airport Road Bombed In Heaviest Night Of Israeli Strikes To Date

Israeli airstrikes continued to hammer Beirut through the overnight hours and into Sunday, with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) calling them "pinpoint" attacks, but which has left Lebanese civilians in the capital in a state of panic. Financial Times and others have called it the heaviest night of bombing on the Lebanese capital to date.

Large fireballs were observed overnight, and towering smoke plumes in the dawn hours, as the IDF said it also struck multiple weapons depots and Hezbollah infrastructure across the country. The IDF has said it has hit 150 Hezbollah targets in the past 24 hours, including a building near a key road leading to Lebanon's international airport.

Amazingly, the Lebanese national carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA) has continued to fly passenger planes into and out of Beirut, even as Israel jets are dropping bombs.

"We just saw another plane take off even though air strikes have happened very close to the Rafic Hariri International airport," an Al Jazeera correspondent writes. "The only airline that is still operating in and out of Lebanon is the local airline. They have refused to shut down the airport despite the threat that they face every single day as they have over the past two weeks."

One Australian eyewitness says she was sitting on a plane which was readying to take off at the moment the major bombing near the airport unfolded. "While we were sitting in the airplane just before takeoff there was a lot of bombing, like around 500 meters next to the airport, and as we were about to take off we heard a lot of bombing," she told Reuters.

It closes with the tagline: “Science can make this possible. Only you can make it real.”

For context about all the FEMA stuff, I saw Alejandro Mayorkas this afternoon at Sid Mashburn, which is the second time I’ve seen him there on a Saturday afternoon in about a month. So, suffice to say, the guy isn’t working around the clock

Julian Assange On The Dangerous Tendencies Of Government

At the recent European human rights assembly WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange spoke publicly for the first time since his release from incarceration regarding the authoritarian nature of his persecution.

In his testimony, Assange stepped back at times from the particulars of his story to address broader issues related to government that are important for proponents of freedom of speech and press, and opponents of warmongering, to understand. Then, in his answering of questions after his testimony, Assange provided some insightful description of a dangerous government tendency that it is important for people to understand.

Assange described a persistent, powerful, and often successful effort to direct government to act against the liberty and well-being of the people. This, he indicates, supported the United States government taking action against Assange that appeared barred by the First Amendment of the US Constitution and judges in Britain giving great deference to the US effort to seek Assange’s extradition to the US.

Regarding the action of the US government against him, Assange stated:

We performed a legal analysis to understand what the abilities and limitations were within Europe for publishing documents from a number of different countries, including the United States. We understood that, in theory, Article 10 should protect journalists in Europe. Similarly, looking at the US First Amendment to its Constitution, no publisher had ever been prosecuted for publishing classified information from the United States — either domestically or internationally.

I expected some kind of harassment, legal process. I was prepared to fight for that. I believe the value of these publications was such that it’s OK to have that fight, and that we would prevail because we had understood what was legally possible.

My naivete was believing in the law. When push comes to shove, laws are just pieces of paper and they can be reinterpreted for political expediency. They are the rules made by the ruling class more broadly, and, if those rules don’t suite what it wants to do, it reinterprets them or, hopefully, changes them, which is clearer.

In the case of the United States, we angered one of the constituent powers of the United States — the intelligence sector, the security state, the secrecy state. It was powerful enough to push for reinterpretation of the US Constitution.

The US First Amendment seems pretty black-and-white to me. It’s very short. It says the Congress shall make no law restricting speech or the press. However, the US Constitution and those precedents relating to it were just reinterpreted away.

And, yes, perhaps, ultimately if it had gotten to the Supreme Court of the United States and I was still alive in that system, I might have won, depending on what the makeup was of the US Supreme Court. But, in the meantime, I had lost 14 years in the house arrest, embassy siege, and maximum security prison.

So, I think, this is an important lesson that when a major powerful faction wants to reinterpret the law it can push to have the element of the state – in this case the US Department of Justice — do that, And it doesn’t care too much about what is legal; that’s something for a much later date. In the meantime, the deterrent effect that it seeks, the retributive actions that it seeks, have had their effect.

In addition to the US Justice Department deferring to the CIA to subvert legal protections, Assange comments in his answers that “all judges, whether they were finding in my favor or not, in the United Kingdom, showed extraordinary deference to the United States, engaged in astonishing intellectual backflips, to allow the United States to have its way on my extradition and in relation to setting precedents that occurred in my case more broadly.” “That’s to my mind,” continued Assange, “a function of the selection of UK judges, the narrow section of British society from which they come, their deep engagement with the UK establishment, and the UK establishment’s deep engagement with the United States, whether that’s in the intelligence sector, BAE which is now the largest manufacturer in the United Kingdom—a weapons company, BP, Shell, and some of the major banks.” Continuing, Assange explained:

The United Kingdom’s establishment is made up out of people who have benefited from that system for a long period of time, and almost all judges are from it. They don’t need to be told explicitly what to do. They understand what is good for that cohort, and what is good for that cohort is keeping a good relationship with the United States government.

TREASON: Newsom signs new bill STOPPING local governments from requiring ID to vote in California

California Governor Gavin Newsom has just signed a bill into law that will prevent local governments from implementing any type of regulation requiring people to show identificationbefore they can vote.

The move appears to be pushback against a controversial ballot measure that voters approved earlier this year in the city of Huntington Beach requiring people to present photo ID when they show up at the polls. The measure passed with 53.4% of the votes and would also increase the number of in-person voting sites and monitor the ballot dropboxes used for local elections.

As a charter city, the Republican-led city says that it has home rule over administering elections. However, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber and Attorney General Rob Bonta sued the city to invalidate the law on the grounds that it interferes with the state's voting rights protections.

In a statement about Huntington Beach’s measure, Bonta claimed: “State election law already contains robust voter ID requirements with strong protections to prevent voter fraud, while ensuring that every eligible voter can cast their ballot without hardship. Imposing unnecessary obstacles to voter participation disproportionately burdens low-income voters, voters of color, young or elderly voters, and people with disabilities.”

In other words, he’s afraid it would make it harder for those groups who traditionally vote for Democrats to cast their ballot – but the unspoken part here is that it would also make it harder to rig the vote.

Huntington Beach never responded to the lawsuit, but it’s a moot point with the new state-wide law going into effect.

The new legislation prompted immediate backlash from Elon Musk, who referred to Newsom as “The Joker.”

He wrote on X: "Wow, it is now illegal to require voter ID in California! They just made PREVENTING voter fraud against the law. The Joker is in charge."

Right now, California is just one of 14 states that does not have an identification requirement for voting. Some of the other states on this list include Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Maine and New York.

Meanwhile, 24 states require voters to present photo identification. For example, in Florida, voters must present both a photo and signature ID. Eleven states allow people to vote using forms of identification that do not have a photo, such as a utility bill or bank statement with the voter’s name and address.

Voter ID laws in the spotlight as Election Day approaches

With Election Day fast approaching, many people who remember what happened in 2020 are rightfully concerned about how easy it would be to manipulate the vote. There is no question that voter ID laws can do a lot to prevent many of the most common types of fraud, such as impersonating registered voters at the polls, preventing people who are not citizens from casting their ballots, and preventing people from registering in multiple jurisdictions.

While liberals love to claim that this prevents certain groups of people from voting, the truth is that Americans across all backgrounds and political views overwhelmingly support the idea of requiring identification to vote.

In fact, a poll carried out by the Honest Elections Project found that 77% of all Americans are in favor of requiring photo ID to cast a ballot and just 14% are opposed. They also found that 76% of low-income voters, 77% of Hispanic voters, and 64% of black voters support voter ID laws.

Netflix subscribers cancelling subscriptions en masse after co-founder endorses Kamala for president

Netflix saw the largest-ever number of subscription cancellations in a single day this past week after cofounder and CEO Reed Hastings came out in support of Kamala Harris for president.

According to reports, Hastings is so thrilled with the idea of Kamala cackling her way into the White House that he donated a whopping $7 million to her already over-bloated war chest.

On July 23, Hastings went on X to publicly announce how much he loves Kamala. This prompted the worst business day ever for Netflix, which lost 2.8 percent of its subscriber based in July alone.

New Israeli Assault on North Gaza Signals Start of Ethnic Cleansing Plan

Israel ordered all Palestinian civilians in northern Gaza to head south, the first step in the so-called "general's plan" that ends with ethnic cleansing

The Israeli military has launched a fresh assault on northern Gaza and ordered all Palestinian civilians living in the north to head south, signaling Israel may be enacting an ethnic cleansing plan that has been reviewed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Known as the “general’s plan” since it was drawn up by retired IDF generals, the plan would result in the complete ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from areas in Gaza north of the Netzarim Corridor, a strip of land controlled by the Israeli military that separates Gaza City and other parts of the north from the south.

The first step of the plan is to transfer the estimated 300,000 Palestinian civilians out of northern Gaza, then impose a full siege on the north to starve out remaining Hamas fighters and other Palestinians who remain. Northern Gaza would be declared a “closed military zone,” meaning anyone who remains will be targeted by the IDF.

Since Israel has bombed so-called “safe zones” throughout the war and the tent camps in the south are already extremely overcrowded, many Palestinian civilians are expected to ignore the new evacuation order. According to Al Jazeera, some Palestinians have started to head south, but Palestinian authorities are calling on civilians to ignore the Israeli evacuation order.

“Israeli claims about the presence of safe zones in southern Gaza are lies as Israel commits crimes and massacres in all areas of the enclave,” Gaza’s Interior Ministry said. “We call on citizens in northern Gaza to ignore Israeli threats.”

Israeli forces are currently focusing their renewed assault in northern Gaza on the Jabalia refugee camp and have sent tanks into the area for the first time in months. At least 17 people, including nine children, were killed by Israeli attacks on Jabalia overnight Saturday into Sunday.

The Israeli military said it has surrounded Jabalia, while Palestinian Islamic Jihad said its fighters have targeted Israeli troops attempting to penetrate the camp.

Under the general’s plan, once Israel kills and starves the remaining Palestinians in northern Gaza, it can use the same tactics in other areas of the Strip. Israel’s assault on Lebanon and the looming Israeli attack on Iran has taken much of the world’s attention away from the genocidal war in Gaza, giving Netanyahu an opportunity to enact the ethnic cleansing plan with less global scrutiny.

The Israeli takeover of northern Gaza could pave the way for Jewish settlements in the area, an idea supported by many Israeli ministers and Knesset members.
