Crimea was historically part of Russia…and Russia historically was east of the Volga river…
Even dating way back to the huge Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth that extended from the Baltic to the Black Sea, and essentially included Ukraine, it was only west of the Volga river and did not include Crimea or eastern “Ukraine” of today.
News hasn’t been honest about this whole issue.
