NYC seeking 14,000 hotel rooms to shelter migrants through 2025 — as housing costs set to surpass $2.3B

By Carl Campanile Published Oct. 9, 2024, 7:58 p.m. ET

They need more room at the inn.

New York City’s use of hotels as emergency shelters to house migrants will continue for the foreseeable future, The Post has learned, as theDepartment of Homeless Servicesis seeking a contract with hotels to provide a total of14,000 rooms to shelter migrants at least through next year.

The city projects that spending onhousing for migrants over the past two years and this fiscal year combined will surpass a staggering $2.3 billion— much of it on rent paid to hotels in the Big Apple.

About 150 hotels are currently sheltering migrants and totalspending on migrant services over three years will hit $5.76 billion.

“The taxpayers can’t pay for this indefinitely,” said Nicole Gelinas, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute think tank.

With Mayor Eric Adams under criminal indictment and his administration in disarray, Gelinas said Gov. Kathy Hochul “should take control” of managing the migrant crisis in the city.

She said it’s totally unacceptablethat so many hotels in Manhattan’s Midtown and downtown tourists districthave been converted to migrant shelters instead of serving the tourism industry.

“We should stop using hotels as shelters by the end of the year,” Gelinas said.

•The city has three existing contractswith the New York City Hotel Association to work with its extensive network of hotels to voluntarily provide shelter space.

The total cost to housemigrants per room per night is $352 per night, according to city data .

There are financial benefits — particularly to hotels in the outer boroughs that are not in tourist districts and have lower occupancy rates. The city will fill all the rooms and pay a hefty sum to do so, providing a reliable revenue stream.

“The New York City Department of Homeless Services is seeking to continue the City Sanctuary Facility program by procuring a vendor who can assist in acquiring the use of large scale commercial hotels and hotel management services to help address the current emergency,” the agency said in its new solicitation.

The hotel association will apply to oversee the new shelter contract, said its president and CEO, Vijay Dandapani.

“We will be filling in the RFP [request for proposal],” he said.

Dandapani said the hotel association’s foundation is paid approximately $100,000 per month to administer three of its existing contracts with the city.

“We have five full time employees specifically for fulfilling the contractual obligations, besides work done by regular HANYC staff for the contract, in addition to their normal duties,” he said.

•The city Asylum Funding Tracker projects that migrant shelter costs will drop from $1.51 billion last year to $233 million in the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.

Adams has said that 30-day shelter limits for individuals and 60 days for families has helped reduce the migrant population in the city’s shelter system.

DOJ Inspector General refuses to release damning J6 report until AFTER election… would disclose true number of gov’t. informants…

October 10, 2024 (8 hours ago)

Regular readers of Revolver will know that no elected official has done more than Congressman Thomas Massie to amplify and advance our groundbreaking coverage on the January 6 Fedsurrection. It was only because Thomas Massie was willing to pursue Revolver’s pipe bomb coverage that we learned, among other things, that the former head of the FBI’s pipe bomb investigation claimed the geofencing data that would have identified the bomber was “lost.” And of course it was entirely thanks to Massie’s persistent and judicious efforts that the single most important and damning piece of J6-related footage was released. The footage in question depicted the discovery of the DNC pipe bomb and made it abundantly clear that Kamala Harris’ secret service detail knew in advance the bomb was fake, overwhelmingly suggesting a cover-up and helping to clarify the otherwise bizarre fact that Kamala refuses to talk about her narrow brush with the pipe bomb.

Earlier this week, Massie had the occasion to speak withMichael Horowitz, the inspector generalof the Department of Justice, who is sitting on a major report that, according to our sources, will reveal that the presence of government-paid informants is vastly greater than previously reported or imagined. Of course, there’s a catch—according to the below exchange with Massie, despite this report being underway for years, it will not be released before the election.

The pretense for delay is “classification review.”The political weaponization of the classification process is nothing new, is not limited to Jan. 6 obstructionism, and is but a specific case of a more general tendency of corrupt federal officials to block disclosure and cover up and justify crimes in the name of national security. In this instance, however, it is an especially ridiculous delay tactic given the agency has had years to complete the review process. How convenient that the review process is only expected to be finished after the election (but before the inauguration).

The question of informants is particularly interesting because FBI head Christopher Wray suggested to Amy Klobuchar that there were no informants. Since that exchange, it has come out that indeed the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers were littered with informants, including up to the very highest levels of these organizations.

How much worse does the reality of federal involvement in Jan. 6 have to be for the DOJ IG to be suppressing the report so vigorously?

These delay tactics mirror those deployed by DHS head and open borders disgrace Alexander Majorkas, who vigorously suppressed the DHS’ IG report on Secret Service malfeasanceassociated with the DNC pipe bomb and exposed it in the surveillance video referenced above. In the case of the DHS IG report, it was fortunate that IG Joseph Cuffarri seemed genuinely interested in the truth coming out despite Mayorkas’ efforts. As a result, the DHS IG report ended up getting leaked against Mayorkas’ wishes, and highly placed sources within the government told Revolver News key details of the report before it was made public. Once public, the report confirmed that Kamala Harris was indeed within 20 feet of the pipe bomb, along with the fact that not one but two Secret Service canine details swept that immediate area for bombs and managed to “miss” them, thereby deepening the already overwhelming suspicion of Secret Service malfeasance and cover-up.

We know that many within the DOJ are similarly frustrated and want the truth to come out, and we can only hope that the report and all of its damning details will be released one way or another before the election so that the American people can make a fully informed decision. After all, the lies behind the J6 Fedsurrection remain a major pillar with which the regime media and security apparatus attempt to demonize both Trump and his supporters, not to mention being the basis of one of the many sham legal cases hanging over Trump’s head.

Let’s get the full truth out before it’s too late.

CNN ANALYST: Just 28% of Americans think the U.S. is on the right track. The incumbent party usually loses when that number nears 25%, and wins when it is near 42%. This is a bad sign for Kamala Harris.

KamalaHarris pointed out at a campaign event on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" that she is not, indeed, Donald Trump or Joe Biden. That is how her presidency would be "different==."

That's it. Physically not the same person. God help us.

Kamala Harris says she wouldn’t change a thing that Biden has done, and Biden says she’s been integral to all of it.

A “new way forward?” Hardly.

Kamala Harris has made “women’s rights” a pillar of her campaignyet sits down with Howard Stern, the man who sexualized the underage Olsen twins and said the Columbine shooters should have r*ped the girls while they had the chance. If you’ve never heard his statements on either, I warn you they are incredibly disturbing:

Howard Stern on the Columbine shooters: “There were some really good-looking girls running with their hands on their heads. Did the kids try to have sex with any of those girls? They didn't even do that? Why wouldnt you have some sex? If I was going to kill some people, Id take them out with sex.”

Howard Stern on theOlsen twins: Now, normally I don't look at a 13-year-old and sexualize them, I don't, but these two are pieces of ass. They've grown up so perfect."

Are we witnessing President Biden's revenge tour?

A Kamala loss would mark the ultimate "I told you so" moment.

JORDAN SCHACHTEL OCT 08, 2024

Hell hath no fury like a corrupt politician scorned.

You can’t help but notice that “Dark Brandon” isn’t exactly falling in line these days.

President Joe Biden finds himself a victim of the Democrat establishment mutineers, stripped of an opportunity at two-term greatness, and with quite a few interesting incentives coming into the November election.

More and more polling points to the possibility thatKamala Harris may lose by a significant margin in November. Donald Trump’s momentum keeps building, with nothing but tailwinds at his back.

The Biden family is keenly aware of all of this, and they seem to be positioning the president for the ultimate "I told you so" moment for his legacy. Should Kamala Harris fall in defeat, President Biden becomes a man both wronged by a political establishment and righteous for being the one man who could defeat the GOP nominee.

We need not rehash the bizarre events of July 21, but it’s worth recalling thatBiden was seemingly forced out of the running for his second term, and Democratic Party power brokers (Obama, Soros, Pelosi, Schumer, etc)hastily selected VP Kamala Harris as the nominee. Furthermore, they filled the lame-duck months on Biden’s schedule with instructions to stay quiet and soak up the sun in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Since that fateful week in Delaware, Biden’s tone has changed dramatically.

In his rare public appearances, the president is attempting to transition into political retirement as an elder statesman, and he’s almost always doing so far removed from the instructions of his teleprompter.

His newfound rhetoric is far removed from his infamous verbal dumpster diving of the Biden-Trump debate (and the vast majority of his presidency).

He's now linking arms with supporters of the one-time “threat to democracy,” reframing his legacy as Scranton Joe, the bipartisan blue-collar president. He never once engaged in such deliberate bipartisan appeals, on or off script, for his entire presidency.

During a September visit to a fire station in Pennsylvania, the president playfully donned a Trump 2024 hat, marking the de-unification from Kamala Harris’s “threat to democracy” rhetoric against Donald Trump.

This week, Kamala Harris castigatedformer President Trump, along with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and other political leaders who she claimed werenot taking her phone calls about hurricanes. (what other political leaders are not taking her calls?)

Biden, on the other hand, took to praising Republican governors for their efforts to engage in disaster preparedness and response.

“The governor of Florida has been cooperative. He said he has gotten all that he needs. I talked to him again yesterday and I said no, you’re doing a great job,” Biden told reporters Tuesday, “and all is being done well, thank you for it.”

Bipartisan Biden strikes again!

“Every governor from Florida to North Carolina has been fully cooperative and supportive and acknowledged what this team is doing,” he added.

Are we witnessing Biden’s revenge tour?

(The cool thing is Bidan wouldn't be doing this if Kamak had any chance to win, so he's seen the inside polling and know she's failing badly. That's why he's sabotaging so late in the game.
