Stock for the electric car company closed at $318.87 a share on Friday and opened at $311.70 on Monday. By 11:45pm, it had dipped even lower, to $307.52 - or nearly four per cent.

It all started when the Federal Election Commission released annual filings this week, showing Musk as one of the top 50 donors to a political action committee dedicated to help Republicans maintain control of the House.
