Russia & United States can compete & work together in energy market - Putin
Russia and US are competitors in oil and gas exports, but there is room for cooperation in regulating the energy market, said Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Helsinki press conference with US President Donald Trump.
"I believe that we, as the largest oil and gas powers, could work constructively to regulate international markets, because we are not interested in acute prices drops, because producers will suffer from this, including shale oil and gas projects in the United States,” said President Putin in response to a reporter's question regarding the future of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
The United States is a major opponent of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that will double gas flows through the existing pipeline from Russia to Germany. While President Trump cites concern for European energy security as the reason, he admitted during the press conference that it is also a competition issue for US liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Trump reminded everyone that the US has become a global leader in oil and gas production, and that “we will be competing when you talk about the pipeline,” adding that Russia is a “good competitor.”
Putin suggested creating a working group that would unite leading businesses from Russia and the US. He also stressed that gas transits through Ukraine will remain despite the construction of Nord Stream 2 pipeline from Russia to Germany, if Moscow and Kiev manage to find a solution in their legal dispute over gas transit in Stockholm Arbitration.
In June, Russia’s Gazprom won an appeal to halt seizure of its European assets. Four months earlier, the Stockholm court ordered the Russian company pay for a shortfall in the delivery of gas to Ukraine, awarding Naftogaz $2.6 billion in compensation.
On Monday, Germany maintained that the gas pipeline from Russia is purely about business. “Nord Stream 2 is first and foremost a commercial project,” government spokesman Steffen Seibert told a regular government news conference in Berlin. Last week, Trump accused Germany of being a “captive” of Russia because of the project.
During the Helsinki press conference on Monday, President Trump repeated his concerns. “I’m not sure necessarily that it’s in the best interest of Germany or not but that was the decision that they made,” he said.
The $11-billion Nord Stream 2 will double the existing Nord Stream pipeline’s current annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters and is expected to become operational by the end of next year.

Hillary begins speech: ‘I’m so tired, I can barely stand’ - American Federation of Teachers gives her Women’s Rights Award
Hillary Clinton may have visions of 2020 — if she can just keep her eyes open.
The failed presidential candidate started her speech to the American Federation of Teachers union on Friday in a bizarre way: by telling everyone how tired she was.
“Well, I’ll tell you,” she said, “I’ve been back there listening to Randi (Weingarten) and I’m so exhausted, I can barely stand here.”
Clinton flashed moments of bitterness and anger to the unionists gathered in Pittsburgh.
Receiving the Women’s Rights Award from the union, she railed on how she has been oppressed in life.
“When I was growing up, there were scholarships I couldn’t get, colleges I couldn’t attend, jobs I couldn’t apply for just because I was a girl,” she lamented.
She attacked the layout of classified ads in newspapers.
“It wasn’t so very long ago that classified ads were divided into ‘help wanted dash male,’ and ‘help wanted dash female,'” Clinton said.

She also criticized girls’ half-court basketball in school.
“They wouldn’t let us run on the full court,” she sniffed.
She fear-mongered in stark terms against the Trump administration and Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
“They’ve gutted funding for public schools and universities,” Clinton claimed, “and they’ve rolled back protections against discrimination for students.
After a lengthy broadside against Trump policies, she said, “They are trying to rip the heart out of America.
“They want to turn us into transactional units,” claiming Trump supporters want a “man-eat-man, woman-eat-woman” society.
“They want to turn us against each other. They want to divide and conquer,” she claimed.
At the conclusion of Clinton’s attacks, unionists applauded wildly.

Russian National Arrested in Washington DC, Charged as Russian Agent - DOJ
Russian national Mariia Butina was arrested and charged with conspiring to act as an agent of a foreign government, the US Department of Justice announced on Monday.
According to the US Department of Justice, Butina, who was arrested on Sunday, was developing ties with US citizens and infiltrating political groups.
"Butina worked at the direction of a high-level official in the Russian government who was previously a member of the legislature of the Russian Federation and later became a top official at the Russian Central Bank," the statement from the DOJ states. "This Russian official was sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control in April 2018."
It adds that the 29-year-old also "undertook her activities without officially disclosing the fact that she was acting as an agent of Russian government." Butina's next hearing is scheduled for July 18.
Per NPR, FBI Special Agent Kevin Helson stated in a sworn statement that one of the goals Butina was attempting to accomplish was to "exploit personal connections with US person having influence in American politics in an effort to advance the interests of the Russian Federation." The outlet notes that one of her contacts was with an "organization promoting gun rights."
