Local sources say about 500k people were situated along the route from the airport to the city square, and the Croatian capital of Zagreb has 700k population total.

Croatia is a country of merely 4 million people. Today, as Croatia welcomed its national football team, we displayed the single greatest show of national unity in the history of our country, and I doubt any country ever came close. Nearly everyone was on the streets with the air force doing flyovers and all TV stations save few foreign-owned ones have broadcasted this event for the entire day, not even showing the news. No one even cared the World Cup was won by France, the second place was far enough. This level of national unity is simply astounding and I hope future events like these can be channeled for positive purposes for every country on the planet. Life was paused for the entire day, it was simply mesmerizing to watch.

Today was a very good day to be Croatian.
