You are using the word "successful" ambiguously, suggesting that it refers to those who are objectively good in some real study while then using it to refer to those who actually get tenure-track jobs.
In reality, beyond a certain level of minimal competence, being actually good is a NEGATIVE selection factor.
FAR, FAR more ACTUAL COLLEGE PROFESSORS are paid BY THE CLASS than almost anyone realizes.
And the wages do not account for the prep and grading time that any conscientious academic will take.
The STUPIDEST most CLUELESS people in American society are quasi-conservative parents who "do the right thing" and aim to get their kids into the "right" schoos and pay for it.
Except they are being SYSTEMATICALLY DECEIVED on issues that go well beyond politics.
