Over the weekend, a non-US citizen from China cast a ballot at an early voting center in Ann Arbor, MI.

A 19-year-old University of Michigan student from China voted in our general election on Sunday. Using only a school ID and proof of residency, he was able to cast a ballot as a foreigner who is temporarily residing in the United States. Many Americans have been screaming it from the rooftops. Still, alas, with Democrats making laws that make it easier to cheat in our elections, it leaves one wondering if there will ever be a chance for free and fair elections in Michigan again.

According to a report by The Detroit News, the Chinese student was caught, but only because he came back to the clerk after he had ALREADY cast his vote and asked to have his ballot back. Once he walked away from the polling place where he cast his ballot, there was no way to know he was a non-US citizen from China that just voted in our elections.

The person is being charged with perjury—making a false statement on an affidavit to secure voter registration—and being an unauthorized elector who attempted to vote; according to Michigan law, the latter allegation is a felony punishable by up to four years behind bars and a fine of up to $2,000. The standard penalty for perjury in Michigan is 15 years in prison, but it’s unclear what it would be in this case involving lying on an application to vote.

Because Michigan only uses tabulators to count their votes, once a ballot has been sent through the electronic counting device, it becomes an anonymous ballot and is impossible to retrieve. Continue…

An association of Canadian veterans wants governments to remove barriers around mental health treatments that employ psychedelic substances so those suffering from mental illness due to high-stress jobs can access the help they require.

PsyCan, a non-profit trade association of psychedelic medicine and therapy companies and military veterans, called on the government to lift the red tape on psychedelic drug therapy.

The group argued that current rules prevent veterans and others in high-mental health risk occupations from accessing psychedelic-assisted therapy. To counter the barriers, PsyCan advocates an increase in research for Canada to pay the costs and model access to psychedelic therapy on the medical marijuana program.

At a conference, Liam Bedard, the executive director of PsyCan, lauded the “numerous landmark scientific studies” which demonstrate the safety and efficacy of psychedelic treatment. Drugs such as MDMA and Psilocybin, the active compound in psychedelic mushrooms, have increasingly been employed to treat mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse disorders.

As per a StatsCanada census, in 2021, Canada is home to ​​461,240 CAF veterans. According to Veterans Affairs Canada, more than a third, 38.7%, of CAF veterans reported mental health problems. Among those 16.4% reported severe mental health conditions and another 10% reported being diagnosed with PTSD or other health issues that accompany it.

PsyCan noted that Health Canada’s Special Access Program has allowed applications for the medical use of psilocybin and MDMA since 2022. However, VAC will not reimburse veterans for any psychedelic-assisted therapy. There was a minor uproar in Manitoba recently when a speaker invited to discuss “settler colonialism” at a Winnipeg School Division event announced to the assembled crowd of educators that “Resistance To Colonialism Is Not Terrorism.”

School board officials quickly and dutifully apologized for such an outrageous claim. “Our focus is on and must be on, Indigenous education, reconciliation, and equity for all. There is no equity in terrorism”, Winnipeg school board superintendent Matt Henderson said later in a public statement.

Yet Henderson’s claim that the offending statement shared nothing in common with current discussions about reconciliation or native rights is not entirely accurate. Under the catch-phrase “Land Back”, many Indigenous activists today believe they have the right to resist “colonial occupation” by any means necessary.

Originating in the United States about a decade ago, Land Back was first used as a deliberate political slogan during 2018 protests demanding the transfer of control over the world-famous U.S. Presidential Memorial at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota to local native groups. It quickly jumped the border and now flourishes in Canada as well, where it can be seen and heard in connection to various Indigenous demands and reconciliation discussions. Versions of Land Back can also be found in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Mexico.

Not quite a distinct political movement, Land Bank comprises a range of impulses and demands that combine mysticism, grievance, aspiration and ideology. BC Conservative MLAs have rejected every attempt by newly re-elected British Columbia Premier David Eby to court BC Conservative MLAs for the Speaker position.

Eby has had the BC NDP contact several opposition MLAs so he could maintain his slim majority government.

Multiple BC Conservatives have declared that they will not accept the role of speaker of the legislature, which would allow the BC NDP government to retain its majority.

Following the BC Election, The NDP secured a slim majority and now holds 47 legislative seats, just making the 47-seat threshold for a majority government. The BC Conservatives currently hold 44 seats.

The problem for Eby is that the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia needs to elect a Speaker, and if it comes from his party, he would lose majority status. The Speaker does not vote except in a tie-breaking scenario.

Elected members of the legislature need to put their own names forward to apply for the role, making the recently re-elected Eby government’s search for a new Speaker all the more difficult.

Drugs, guns, cash, and precursor chemicals were seized, and one person has been arrested.

During a press conference, Assistant Commissioner David Teboul revealed that a series of search warrants were executed over the past weekend at one location in Falkland and two in Surrey, BC. Authorities recovered half a tonne of hard drugs, 89 firearms, and $500,000 in cash.

Among the drugs seized were 35 kg of cocaine, 54 kg of fentanyl, 390 kg of methamphetamine, 15 kg of MDMA, and 6 kg of cannabis. The firearms included dozens of handguns, AR-15 assault rifles, and sub-machine guns. Teboul noted that some were "loaded and ready to use."

He went on to note that officers also located "several explosive devices, a massive amount of ammunition, firearm silencers, high-capacity magazines, body armour [and] … 5,000 litres of precursor chemicals and over 10 tonnes of powdered precursor chemicals."

The drugs were mainly found in Falkland while most of the firearms were seized in Surrey.

One suspect, Gaganpreet Randhawa, has been arrested and charged with numerous drug, and firearms-related offences. He is currently in custody, and Teboul noted that he has a criminal history.

Teboul explained that the investigation was ongoing, and that the operation is linked to the transnational drug trade. He did not say which countries Canadian authorities were working with. He also noted that it was linked to another bust in Enderby, where over 30 tonnes of precursor chemicals were seized.

A picture circulating online shows Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s campaign director and chief of staff meeting with prominent CBC host, David Cochrane.

Cochrane currently serves as the host of CBC’s Power & Politics.

The widely-circulated photo reveals Cochrane sitting next to Trudeau’s Chief of Staff, Katie Telford, and the Prime Minister’s new campaign director, Andrew Bevan.

Reached for comment as to the purpose of the meeting, neither party responded by the time of publication.

It’s fully possible Mr. Cochrane was meeting Trudeau’s campaign strategist for a story, digging for a scoop on how he plans to improve Trudeau’s abysmal polling numbers.

But the cozy relationship between the CBC and the Trudeau Government is no secret. Even the Conservative Party leader, Pierre Poilievre, recently referred to the CBC as the Prime Minister’s public relations team.

The viral photo has also created speculation from social media users as to the purpose of the meeting, with sarcastic comments like “Nothing to see here.” Continue…
