Refreshing muh memory re: 4POG, which led to their motto: Sine Pari. Looked it up and came across this history of Army special forces, written in 1997.

Kennedy visited Fort Bragg in 1961 -
"Kennedy's interest in the Special Forces also led to theformal adoption on Sept. 1, 1961, of the green beret as the official headgear of all Special Forces troops."
