The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA

 

The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) was signed into law by the President on June 10, 2014, and authorized the WIFIA program to be managed by EPA Headquarters. WIFIA was amended by section 1445 of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act of 2015 (FAST), section 5008 of the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act of 2016 (WIIN), and section 4201 of America's Water Infrastructure Act of 2018, and Sections 50214 and 50215 of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in 2021. The statute and its amendments are in 33 USC Ch. 52: Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation.

§3905. Projects eligible for assistance

The following projects may be carried out with amounts made available under this chapter:

 

(1) Any project for flood damage reduction, hurricane and storm damage reduction, environmental restoration, coastal or inland harbor navigation improvement, or inland and intracoastal waterways navigation improvement that the Secretary determines is technically sound, economically justified, and environmentally acceptable, including—

 

(A) a project to reduce flood damage;

 

(B) a project to restore aquatic ecosystems;
