Hamas Shooting Palestinians Seeking to Flee Gaza Fighting

Palestinian civilians trying to evacuate intense fighting in the northern Gaza Strip are being shot by Hamas terrorists trying to prevent them from leaving, an Israel Defense Forces medic said on Monday.

Cpl. Shai Gilboa, a medic in the IDF’s 9th Battalion, who was photographed in Jabaliya tending to a Gazan woman with a facial injury, told Israel’s Channel 12 in an interview that Hamas is now resorting to gunfire to prevent Palestinian civilians from heeding Israeli orders to evacuate to designated safe zones during the renewed fighting.

“Our battalion went into action to exert as much military pressure as possible on Hamas terrorists, who held the civilian population in the area and forbade them from evacuating to a safe area,” Gilboa said.

During the clashes, she noted, terrorists in the area opened fire and wounded some of the Gazans who were trying to flee.

“The wounded came to us and we provided them with first aid in the field, which mostly entailed stopping the bleeding,” she said.

The injured civilians were then evacuated from the area and directed toward “local medical forces” for further treatment.

In the interview, Gilboa said that the language barrier was one of several reasons that interactions between Israeli troops and the local population was limited.

“But they smile at us; they wave at us,” she said, “and they curse Hamas in front of us. Not only are they not afraid of us, but many of them are on our side.”

The IDF said that thousands of Palestinian civilians have adhered to the military’s calls to evacuate Jabaliya amid a renewed military offensive aimed at preventing Hamas from regrouping in the area.

The evacuations were taking place despite the Hamas-run Interior Ministry ordering civilians earlier this month to ignore the instructions to relocate to other safer areas in the Strip.

Hamas routinely uses civilians as human shields.

Last week, the Israeli military said that Hamas terrorists were preventing Palestinian civilians in Jabaliya from evacuating to humanitarian zones amid the military operation in the area, and released a recording with a local resident who reported that the terror group was beating those who tried to leave.

==“The problem is that when we follow the army’s instructions and try to go, there are people who come out against us and start hitting us with sticks, telling us ‘Go back, go back,’” the Gaza resident said in the recording.

Thousands of Hamas members are believed to be hiding among tens of thousands of residents in the area.==

China's Xi Jinping, India's Narendra Modi, and other global leaders arrived Tuesday in the Russian city of Kazan for a summit of the BRICS bloc of developing economies that the Kremlin hopes to turn into a rallying point for defying the Western liberal order.

For Russian President Vladimir Putin, the three-day meeting also offers a powerful way to demonstrate the failure of U.S.-led efforts to isolate Russia over its action in Ukraine. Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov touted the summit as "the largest foreign policy event ever held" by Russia, with 36 countries attending and more than 20 of them represented by heads of state.

The alliance that initially comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa has expanded rapidly to embrance Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Turkey, Azerbaijan and Malaysia have formally applied to become members, and a few others have expressed an interest in joining.

Observers see the BRICS summit as part of the Kremlin's efforts to showcase support from the Global South amid spiraling tensions with the West and help expand economic and financial ties.

Proposed projects include the creation of a new payment system that would offer an alternative to the global bank messaging network SWIFT and allow Moscow to dodge Western sanctions and trade with partners.

Putin is set to hold about 20 bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, including Tuesday's encounters with China's Xi, India's Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Putin is also set to meet Thursday with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who will be making his first visit to Russia in more than two years. Guterres has repeatedly criticized Russia's action in Ukraine.

Porn star Dakota Skye died at age 27, just weeks after she came under fire for posing topless at George Floyd's memorial.

Skye, whose real name was Lauren Scott, died at her Los Angeles motorhome on Wednesday, according to The Sun. Her husband later identified her.

A cause of death has not been given, but Skye's aunt, Linda Arden, revealed that she had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and developed a dependency on fentanyl.

"Her real life story and how she came to be in that industry, has truly been a tragedy. She died almost exactly two years after her mother, my baby sister's, death which was caused by addiction and alcoholism," Arden said. "Lauren was a product of a highly dysfunctional family involving drugs, alcohol, physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse."

Skye sparked outrage last month when she posted a now-deleted photo of herself topless in front of Floyd's memorial.

"Happy #GeorgeFloyd day in #santabarbara <3 #dakotaskye equality&fair treatment for all. Dope mural," she captioned the image, according to The Sun. Fans were not impressed.

"This is some serious disrespectful bulls*** Lauren," one replied.

"wtf what does flashing have to do with George Floyd death," another wrote.

"I’m celebrating BAD cops being checked with abusing there authority against human beings .. hello," Skye wrote in response to the criticism. "No human being should die getting arrested."

It has since emerged that Skye may have been sex trafficked. Porn star Alana Evans, who was a friend of Skye's, made the claim in a tweet.

"Dakota was in an absolutely horrible relationship with a guy who was selling her at every turn. I tried many times to help her leave to which she refused. She even walked out of a rehab my friends helped put her in. Let me grieve," she wrote.

Evans dismissed rumors that Skye had committed suicide and reiterated her previous comments about Skye's battle with addiction.

"Don’t talk about my relationship with Dakota. No one knows the things that I have been through with that young lady," she wrote. "At the end, we had a tough time because Dakota was not sober and was angry when I would tell her she wasn’t. I was one of few people who would tell her the truth."

Arden told The Sun that Skye was "stalked by demons like no one will ever understand unless you've lived it," adding that she found some comfort in knowing her pain had ended.

"She no longer has to walk through this world in pain in her own prison and that gives me comfort to know she no longer has to fight the voices and images that haunted her," she said.

"She was an addict and an alcoholic," Arden added. "But really all she was doing was searching for love, someone to care about her."
