Is Cindy Brady an Anon?
Brady Bunch star Susan Olsen claims 'woke' reboot was axed over her conservative views
Susan Olsen who played Cindy Brady on The Brady Bunch has claimed that a 'woke' reboot of the series was axed over her conservative political views.
The actress, 63, lifted the lid on the scrapped revival - which would have included black and transgender characters - in an interview with the #WalkAway Campaign podcast this month.
Olsen said that the CBS network became interested in bringing back the iconic '70s series after the cast reunited for A Very Brady Renovation in 2019, which brought record ratings to HGTV at the time.
The planned revival was set to take some inspiration from the controversial Roseanne reboot by having the actors real life personalities and political views shape their on-screen characters.
Olsen explained that Cindy was going to be a Libertarian podcaster on the series, while Jan Brady, played by outspoken liberal Eve Plumb, would have a transgender child.
To increase the diversity on the all-white cast, producers also planned to give one of the Bradys a black spouse.
'I was hoping to continue what Roseanne Barr had set out to do, which I really liked,' Olsen shared.
'Her reboot had a family with completely different political opinions and in the end they all love and respect each other.'
However, Olsen's dreams were cut short when network executives at CBS discovered that the actress had been fired from a radio gig in 2016 for going on a 'homophobic rant.'
At the time, Olsen had used a gay slur in a private message to openly gay actor Leon Acord-Whiting, after he campaigned to have her fired from her LA Talk Radio show for supporting Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
After explaining what had happened to CBS, the network asked Olsen to take a course in political correctness before they moved ahead with The Brady Bunch reboot.
