i met ben bernanke in 2005 or thereabouts. his wife wanted to rent some space in NE Wash DC for some sort of start-up charity. She never followed through to sign the lease though and apparently she lost interest.
Bernanke came to see the property after his wife had been there for an hour or so. He had a couple bodyguards with him. My boss tried to joke with him a little bit but he wasn't having it. He seemed (to me) like he was annoyed with his wife's pet project. He barely said a word and was in and out in 15 minutes.
Anyway, that story is true.
