Simple, if you want pure democracy, you end up with the majority being able to do whatever they want to the MINORITY.
You also need to realize and understand that each state is essentially it's own little country that agrees to work with the other states as a whole. If one state has a greater population, the lesser states will get steamrolled every time. it's one of the things the founding fathers were trying to avoid.
