Cabot Phillips

šŸ§µšŸ§µšŸ§µI went to Clayton County, GA - where 70% of voters are black - to hear their thoughts on Donald Trump.

I now believe the polls showing him winning record support among black voters.

ā€œIf you wanna start your own business, Trump is the man for you. If you wanna live off the government, that would be Kamala.ā€

ā€œThe countryā€™s been run horribly the last four years. When Trump was in office things were a lot betterā€¦Kamalaā€™s consistently flip flopping on policies.ā€

ā€œI feel like Kamalaā€™s a puppet for the Democratic Partyā€¦Trumpā€™s views on protecting the border are on point.ā€

ā€œWhen trump was in power he was doing a much better jobā€¦People are losing their jobs for other people that are coming in the country.ā€

ā€œTrump gives me answers to questionsā€¦When they ask Harris ā€˜Are Americans better off than they were four years ago?ā€™ I donā€™t hear an answer.ā€

Iā€™ve talked to thousands of voters the last 8 years. In the past, most folks not voting for Trump completely despised him.

What surprised me was how many Harris supporters still had good things to say about him.

ā€œHe actually has some views that I kinda like. I donā€™t like the transgender things thatā€™s going on, with the men competing in womenā€™s sportsā€¦So, I kinda like him, but I donā€™t.ā€

ā€œTrump has some good pointsā€¦He could run America real good as a business honestly. And heā€™s unapologetically him. You canā€™t help but respect that.ā€

For decades, Republicans have only won 5-10 percent of the black vote every presidential election.

Polling this year shows Donald Trump with 17-25 percent support.

If he gets anywhere near that number, itā€™s difficult to envision a scenario in which Harris wins states like Georgia or North Carolina.

I still found plenty of Harris voters in Clayton County and the surrounding area.

Abortion and racism were the top two reasons they gave for supporting her.

Call it anecdotal, but I spoke to black voters all day and found a 50-50 Harris/Trump split.

This was in a county with the highest percentage of black residents in the state. It went for Biden 85-15 last election.

Is there a chance Harris still wins 90% of the black vote? Sure.

But based on my experience in Atlanta, I would be shocked if Trump doesnā€™t bring in record numbers of black voters.

Trump refers to CNN's Anderson Cooper by a woman's first name

Former President Donald Trump is referring to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper by a woman's first name

NOVI, Mich. ā€“ Former President Donald Trumphas repeatedly referred to CNN anchor Anderson Cooper with a woman's first name in recent days as the Republican presidential nominee focuses his closing message on a hypermasculine appeal to men.

On a Friday morning post on Trumpā€™s social media site Truth Social, the former president referred to one of the most prominent openly gay journalists in the U.S. as "Allison Cooper.ā€

Trump made the subtext even more explicit later Friday during a rally in Traverse City, Michigan, where he criticized a town hall Cooper hosted with Vice President Kamala Harris.

ā€œIf you watched her being interviewed by Allison Cooper the other night, heā€™s a nice person. You know Allison Cooper? CNN fake news,ā€ Trump said, before pausing and saying in a mocking voice: ā€œOh, she said no, his name is Anderson. Oh, no."

On Saturday, Trump repeated the name during another Michigan rally, then followed it up during a nighttime reference in Pennsylvania. ā€œThey had a town hall,ā€ Trump said in Michigan. ā€œEven Allison Cooper was embarrassed by it. He was embarrassed by it.ā€

In referring to Cooper with a womanā€™s name, Trump appeared to turn to a stereotype heterosexual people have long deployed against gay men. Such rhetoric evokes the trope of gay men as effeminate and comes as Trump aims to drive up his appeal among men in the final stages of his bid to return to the White House.

The former president on Friday recorded a three-hour interview with Joe Rogan, a former mixed martial arts commentator whose podcast is wildly popular among young men. On Oct. 19, Trump kicked off a Pennsylvania rally discussing legendary golfer Arnold Palmerā€™s genitalia.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment. A representative for Cooper declined to comment.

(What does Trump know besides him being gay, did his Mom make him dress up in girls clothing?)
